A little bookish wisdom...

Here are a few memorable lines from some recent reads that are not only well-written, but wise.

"Mediocrity always lives in fear of excellence."
--Nancy Richer, The Imposter Bride

"It's just as exciting to buy a new experience as it is to buy a new dress--more so, in fact."
Agatha Christie, The Secret of Chimneys

"The chess piece cannot play for both black and white."
Elizabeth Ross, Belle Epoque

"I'm never going to be too old for it," said Garnet. "All my life
whenever I see a merry-go-round I'm going to ride on it..."
Elizabeth Enright, Thimble Summer

Happy Reading!

  1. Very true, all of them, but I love the one by Agatha Christie.

    Kind regards,

  2. Those are some great quotes! I keep a list of quotes from books but I'm not quite sure what to do with them....

    1. Save them up for a post! (Then the rest of us can enjoy them, too.)

  3. Scary books always scare me thoroughly...I remember Bloody Mary stories told to me by older kids when I was little, and they sufficiently scared me to remember them even now. Glad this book gave you some Halloween chills.

    1. Oops, I meant to leave this comment for Your review above. As for the quotes, the one which speaks to me most is about not trying to be two things at once (in reference to the chess pieces).

    2. That's a great quote isn't it? And thanks for both your comments. :) I've never forgotten the Bloody Mary story either.
