A bookish update...

Recently finished reading:

Reading goal for May:  "No Women Allowed"
So far this year I've read more than twice as many books by women authors as by men. So I thought I'd try to remedy this by instituting "Men Only May". I know, I'm starting a little late, but for the rest of the month I'll only be reading books written by men--see if I can even out my numbers a little. (And maybe have a little fun at the same time.)

So here's who I just checked out of the library:
Mark Dunn: Ibid
Philip K. Dick: Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?
Matthew Riley: The Great Zoo of China
William Johnstone: Those Jensen Boys!
Thomas Pynchon: The Crying of Lot 49
Michael Robotham:  Shatter

Quote for the week:
"Have regular hours for work and play; make each day both useful and pleasant,
and prove that you understand the worth of time by employing it well.
Then youth will be delightful, old age will bring few regrets,
and life will become a beautiful success."
--Louisa May Alcott

  1. So? What did you think of Fire Touched?! I'm a bit behind in the series. I need to catch up!

    1. I liked it! Mercy and Adam and the pack deal with the fae again in this one, which I don't always like, but Zee and his son come back in this one and I really like them, so... I'd probably give this one a B+. :)

  2. "Men Only May" made me laugh! It seems like I've been reading a disproportionate number of women authors this year, too. I don't plan it, but always end up roughly 50/50. If I get too out of whack, I'll consider a 'no women November' ;-)

  3. I've never read anything by either of these authors! Will have to keep them in mind. :)

    1. If you haven't tried Patricia Briggs' Mercy Thompson series you're missing out. They're awesome.

  4. Seriously I've never thought of the gender issue. I just grab whatever that interest me but I do think I read more female authors than male authors, come to think of it. ;-)

Enjoy those books and looking forward to your reviews.

    1. Thanks! I usually grab what looks good to me, too; it just happens I'm usually drawn to books written by women. But it's fun to change it up once in awhile. :)

  5. I think I have read three books by male authors so far this year. When I first began blogging my reading between the two were much more even. I think it has a lot to do with the types of books I have been reading.

The Great Zoo of China is in my TBR pile to read. It sounds like it will be a lot of fun. And you can't go wrong with Michael Robotham.

Here's to a great month of reading!

  6. I definitely read more books by female authors. It's so interesting what you discover when you track your reading!

    1. Isn't it? I think I'm reading pretty wide, but when I look at the numbers it doesn't add up that way. :)

  7. Cool ideas, to re-balance the reading through a dedicated month! I like it and am probably going to borrow it soon.
