Random things...

I found another tee shirt that totally made me smile:

(I do sometimes feel this way, especially when it comes to my one co-worker who refuses to get vaccinated.)

In other random news, two weekends ago I finally got around to watching the movie To Kill a Mockingbird. It's one of my all-time favorite books, and I've read it many times, but I'd never seen the movie. So I checked a copy of it out of the library and watched it with my mom. And I thought the movie was very well done, though I still like the book better. What about you? When it comes to this classic, which do you like better? The book, or the movie?

I sadly don't have any trips planned for this summer, but I have been doing some birding. There's a great walk along the Jordan River I like to do in the mornings, and I often see a Belted Kingfisher there. (Not the one in this photo; I did not take this picture.) Kingfishers have this crazy call, and when they catch fish they do this divebomb into the water that's so awesome to watch. They are one of my favorite birds. I'm lucky I live where I can see them every summer.

I like to play games...any and all different kinds...and I learned a fun one last month: Succulent. You play your plants in order to collect different colored tokens so you can then earn cards that give you points. It's easy to learn, can be played with partners, and is as entertaining as it's colorful. Next month's game: Tokyo Highway.

On a more bookish note, I went to the library yesterday and once again checked out way too many books. But I like having options when it comes to what I read next. And my summer reading list is super long, so checking out lots of books at one time makes me feel like I'm making progress on it. Now I just need to try and read them all before they're due. Wish me luck.

And Happy Reading!

  1. Oh, i TOTALLY need one of those shirts! I would wear that, I really would. I remember watching To Kill a Mockingbird ages and ages ago, but it didn't stick in my head as much as the book either. did you read the sequel?

    1. I haven't read the sequel to Mockingbird, and I'm not sure I ever will.

  2. I thought the 'To kill a mockingbird' movie is pretty faithful to the book so I don't have a preference for the book or the movie.

When it comes to classic books, I seem to always like the movie better. I think it's good to read the book and watch the movie so that you can understand the book better, at least, to me.

    Have a lovely day.

    1. I like when the movie version of a classic matches the book fairly closely. But I do usually end up liking the book better in most cases. :)

  3. We read To Kill a Mockingbird in school and watched the movie right after finishing the book. I really liked both. I think it's one of the better adaptations out there because it's pretty faithful to the book.

Good luck on your reading list! :)

    1. It is one of the better movie adaptations, I agree. There are just little things in the book that didn't make it into the movie that I love, you know? And I think that's why I like the book best.

That tee shirt is the bomb! I really, really need one.

  6. I read To Kill a Mockingbird first, but I also loved the movie. I thought all the actors were particularly well chosen for their parts. Your new game sounds like fun!

    1. They did do a good job of casting all the roles in To Kill a Mockingbird, especially the kids! And you can't go wrong with Gregory Peck. :)

  7. Oh my gosh I love that shirt. :)

I've never seen Mockingbird, but I love old movies.

Succulent looks fun! And Tokyo Highway- ooh I'm curious abou that!

    1. You should check out the movie of To Kill a Mockingbird sometime. It has Gregory Peck in it. And they did a good job of telling the story. And I'm looking forward to learning how to play Tokyo Highway...it looks like it's a lot of fun.

  8. Love the shirt, and I love kingfishers! The first time I came in contact with a kingfisher was at the bottom of the Grand Canyon. I was wading in the Colorado when I heard its call and then watched it zip past me. Since then, I've seen one one more than once, sitting on top of a NO FISHING sign at the Gilbert Riparian Preserve right here in the Phoenix metro area.

As for Mockingbird, I really like the movie, but the book has the edge.

  9. I love watching birds even though I don't know much about them. I always pack my binoculars on any vacation just in case I see something interesting.

I've never read or watched To Kill a Mockingbird. Watching it seems like a more doable goal. I relate to that t-shirt!

  10. I love that tee shirt but would really like one with a minor difference: changing the word "some" to "most." I had gotten used to driving in light traffic...and have now been slapped in the face by reality.

It's kind of rare for me, but I don't think I can choose between the book and the movie when it comes to Mockingbird. That was just the perfect movie for Peck, and I thought it was well done all the way around. I visited Harper Lee's hometown in Alabama a few years ago before she died, and really enjoyed the way that movie is still an essential part of the town's culture and image.

    1. Traffic is completely annoying where I live. It's like everyone lost their collective minds during the pandemic and forgot how to drive safely with other people on the road.
And Gregory Peck does an amazing job in the movie playing Atticus Finch. It's cool that you got to visit Lee's hometown in Alabama. You do a lot of cool road trips!

  11. That t-shirt is great. I've always thought kingfishers were very cool birds, but I never heard what their call sounds like. Not sure if I ever saw the movie of To Kill a Mockingbird- maybe way back in high school? would like to try it, but I'd have to read the book again first to refresh my memory. It would be for the fourth or fifth time now!

    1. I don't know why it took me so long to watch the movie version of To Kill a Mockingbird. Probably because I love the book so much and didn't want to taint it, you know?

  12. I prefer To Kill a Mockingbird the novel but the film is really, really, really good. (And, Gregory Peck was so handsome.)

Succulent seems like such a cute game!

  14. I love that T-shirt. I'm curious to see what reactions I'd get for those who don't wear a mask, haha. (Yep, still mandatory here.) And that Belted Kingfisher looks pretty! You're so lucky that you get to see them near your place. :)

  15. My mum's a huge fan of Gregory Peck, she's watched all his movies. If you ask her, the movie is better. If you ask me, the book is better (and the movie too slow). And you're right, that T-shirt is wonderful (and very funny), the kingfisher adorable, and the game looks all kinds of fun (I've only ever played Ludo, Snakes & Ladders and Taboo).

  16. I love that T-shirt. LOL I am glad you are still birdwatching. We are foregoing vacations this summer too. Succulent sounds like a fun game. I'll have to look for it. I hope you get all your library books read before they come due! Have a great week, Lark.

  17. That shirt is so great, lol. To Kill a Mockingbird is my favorite book and I agree that the movie is very well done. The book will always be my favorite but the movie is a close second. I was also lucky enough to see the Broadway play not too long before Covid shut everything down and they did an amazing job with the play as well.

  18. That t-shirt is the best! I'm dealing with employees who don't want to get vaccinated and it's frustrating. What a beautiful bird! I hope you get a chance to spend more time outdoors and get to all the books you checked out. You need to let us know what you got!

  19. My sister sent me a picture of a similar t-shirt. It has a hedgehog on it and says "Fully Vaccinated - Still Not A Hugger". So cute (and accurate for me).

I can't remember if I read TKAMB first or if I saw the movie first. But I did both very close together, so I can't say if I prefer one over the other. But for sure, normally I prefer the book over the film. I think the only exception is The Godfather. I didn't like the book but the movie was great.
