Haiku reviews...

Curse the Day by Annabel Chase

She's a witch?! That's news
to Emma. She's also trapped in the
magical town of Spellbound.

Paranormal cozy mystery .... 281 pages .... 4/5 stars.
(I loved Emma and the other supernatural inhabitants of Spellbound; and I can't wait to read the next book in this series.)

Love in the Time of Serial Killers by Alicia Thompson

To Do list:
Clean out dad's house   ✓
Finish dissertation    ✓
Don't fall in love with Sam.

Contemporary romance .... 334 pages .... 4.5/5 stars.
(Humorous and cute. Phoebe's random trivia about serial killers made me laugh, and I loved Sam!)

Be My Ghost by Carol J. Perry

Maureen inherits
Haven House Inn with all its
ghosts .... and a murder.

Mystery .... 274 pges .... 2.5/5 stars.
(Sadly, I did not love this one: the pacing was slow, not a lot happens for a long time--though she does walk her dog a lot--and the ending was rushed.)

Happy Reading!

  3. The first book sounds good to me. Bummer about the third book though, since the premise looks promising.

    1. The premise was so promising on that one, but it just ended up being a little boring.

  4. These are cute review, Lark. I like the sounds of the first two. I have passed on Carol J Perry's last few books for the same reason.

    1. So she's probably not an author to try again.

  5. Two out of three is not bad. The Thompson book seems to be very popular lately.

    1. I've seen a lot of reviews of the Thompson book around, too. I thought it was a fun romance.

  6. The first two sound really good! I almost bought Be My Ghost recently but am glad I passed on it. I have a hard time with slow paced mysteries.

    1. I got so frustrated because I felt like the main character wasn't doing much beyond walking her dog and changing her clothes. Then it wrapped up really fast at the end.

  7. Fun! I like the sound of supernatural cozies- I always like a little supernatural element in my stories- and Serial Killers I've been seeing lots of great reviews for!

    1. That supernatural element in a mystery, or a romance, is one that I always enjoy. :D

  12. As always, I absolutely love your haikus.

I just bought a similar book to your second one: "Your Guide to Not Getting Murdered in a Quaint English Village". LOL

  15. Dang! BE MY GHOST sounds fun, but there needs to be a lot more happening than dog walking to keep my attention. Especially in a mystery. Thanks for the warning.

    1. The premise sounded so good, but then it just dragged. I almost stopped reading it.

  17. I am glad I did not miss your haiku reviews.

Love in the Time of Serial Killers sounds the most appealing to me, although in general I do avoid books about serial killers. In this case, it seems the approach is more light-hearted?

    1. It is...and it's not actually about serial killers. It's just that Phoebe is doing her dissertation on the relationship between true crime writers and their subjects, so there's a lot of talk about different serial killers in it. But it's done in a way that totally made me laugh.
