Top Ten Tuesday

Top Ten Tuesday is a fun weekly meme hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl.

This week's theme?  Places mentioned in books that I'd love to visit. (As you read my list, please remember my emphasis is on the word visit.)

1. The magical land of Oz

2. Diagon Alley....and Hogwarts, too, of course

3. Themyscira

4. Le Cirque des Reves (the Night Circus)

5.  John Galt's Atlantis

6. The ever-changing Castle Glower (especially on a Tuesday)

7. Middle-earth, especially Lothlorien

8. Rose Red, the haunted Rimbauer Mansion

9. Cooger and Dark's Pandemonium Shadow Show (the carnival from Something Wicked This Way Comes.)

10. Nightingale Books (from Veronica Henry's How to Find Love in a Bookshop.)

Happy Reading!

  1. Yep Oz would be fun and Rose Red - sign me up. I put the Overlook on my list and felt a tad crazy doing so but hey, I think it's a gorgeous location.

  3. I love diary novels and Rose Red was great. As for places to visit I'm thinking of the Yorkshire Moors from the Bronte novels. I also really liked Vivian Gornick's memoir Fierce Attachments. Vivian grew up in the Bronx just like my Mom and I would love to travel back in time to the Bronx of the 1940's and 1950's and see the neighborhood where Vivian and my Mom lived.

    1. The Yorkshire Moors would be cool; and I love your family connection to the Bronx. I can totally see why you'd want to go there. :)

    1. Thanks, Rachel! And I wouldn't mind visiting a haunted mansion as long as I knew I could leave at any time. :D

  8. Great list! Many I had to look up - the best kind of research :D.

When I read Something Wicked This Way Comes I thought for sure that it had to have influenced Erin Morgenstern in her imagining of The Night Circus so I find it interesting that you have both locations on your list.

  9. I love the idea of Castle Glower! Especially yes on a Tuesday haha! I've always loved the idea of castles that are bigger on the inside, shifting rooms, all that stuff...

Also Lothlorien. Is that a LOTRO map? Woot!

  11. I've so many places I want to visit when reading books. That's the beauty of reading as even though we aren't there physically we feel we've been there, yeah? ;)

  12. Oh, I love this list -- and the very idea of this list! There have often been scenes in books that I wanted to visit right in that moment, and I wish I'd kept note.

  13. It’s interesting that most (all?) of your places are fantasy—while I would also love to visit Middle Earth (the Shire specifically) and Diagon Alley, most of my go to places are real, just in a different time. Anne of Green Gables’ PEI, Diana Gabaldon’s Edinburgh, Dickens’ London, Edith Wharton’s NYC...

    1. I did kind of take a fantasy direction with this list, didn't I? Maybe because I figure I can get to most of the real places someday if I ever have a little extra money and some time off work. :)
