One month into 2021 and I'm not sure it's any better than 2020. But I'm surviving. And hey, at least there's toilet paper! Because they prioritized school personnel here in Utah, I got my first dose of the Moderna vaccine last month, and should get my second dose next week. No side effects other than a sore arm. I just hope it works, especially with all these scary variants popping up. I'd love to see a light at the end of this long pandemic tunnel!
Something that made me laugh:
I recently finished reading an excellent biography: Revolver--Sam Colt and the Six-Shooter that Changed America by Jim Rasenberger. I thought it was fascinating, and I learned a lot. It's very well-researched and it's clear that Rasenberger really knows his history. There were times however when I felt the writing got a bit too detailed, which made the narrative drag. Overall, though, I liked this one. And who knew one man could influence so much of history with one little gun?

I LOVE that they prioritize school personnel! Over here they're just gonna open the schools on Monday and pray that the numbers won't go up WAY TOO HARD... I'm happy at least to be working at school again, but I'm not all that sure about the safety...
ReplyDeleteWhen we started back to school in the fall we did so with a lot of trepidation and fear. We thought for sure we'd be closed down again within a few weeks. But there have been surprisingly few cases of covid transmission within the schools. Most of the kids I know who have had to quarantine have been exposed to the virus by family, not at school. And I only know of two teachers in the county where I live who contracted covid through a school exposure. Hopefully, that'll be the case where you live, too. Thanks for commenting!

I hope the vaccine makes a difference in this pandemic, too! And Anna and the Apocalypse was fun. And not very graphic or gory. And the music! Some of those songs they sang are so good.
DeleteRevolver sounds like an interesting bit of history that few people know about. I love the idea that writers can still dig up something like the Colt story and tell us something about the past that is still surprisingly fresh.

Here in Texas, even though it's almost exclusively an age-based thing after all the healthcare workers and other essential workers are vaccinated, most everyone I know that's in the over-65 age group are still waiting - including me. I'm on two waiting lists right now, so maybe my turn is coming. The people I know who have gotten the shots have all traveled outside of Houston to get them, to smaller towns within 100 miles of the city.
My mom is in that upper age group and it's been really hard to get her signed up. We put her on every waiting list we could find. Then Utah got sent some more doses and they finally emailed us and offered her a slot. So she just barely got her first dose of the Pfizer vaccine. Hang in there. Hopefully yours is on the way!

It's awesome that you were able to get your vaccine and that you didn't have any bad side effects. I have a cousin who got it and had fever and chills for a day but was perfectly fine after that.

DeleteI tried to watch it last year but I couldn’t get through it! My husband get his first vaccine on Saturday, he has MS so is classed as vulnerable.

DeleteSo glad you got the vaccine! I am also really hoping that we are moving towards a return to "business as usual" soonish. My parents got their first shots a couple of weeks ago. I know it will be a long time before it is widely available like the flu vaccine, but I am crossing my fingers that this initial surge of vaccinations will help bring down the numbers so people and businesses can start to recover.

DeleteOur thermometer stopped working about a week ago after 10 or so years and while my husband was looking online for a replacement he saw disposable masks were available. It feels like forever since any were--not that we've looked hard since we have cloth ones. Still, we were excited and bought a box just the same. That's life in the pandemic, I guess. :-) I hope your second dose of the vaccine goes well and you have little to no side effects. I get my second one next week.

Funny how excited we can get these days over disposable masks, hand sanitizer and Clorox wipes. Our new reality. ;D And thanks for the good wishes with my second dose of the vaccine. I hear the Moderna has more side effects than the Pfizer. Hopefully we both survive. :D
DeleteMan, it's nuts how crazy the year has been in only two months. I'm grateful my husband at least got vaccinated at work so that's one plus. Now if I can manage it. I did finally get a new job I'm really excited about. So it's not all bad.
