Do you ever have days where you just don't feel like reviewing the last book you read? Even when it was good? Because some days I'm really tired and I don't feel like trying to figure out how to summarize a story, or find the right words to describe what I liked or didn't like about a book. Some days I just want to post a picture of the cover and say, "I read this one; it was good" and call it a day. So that's what I'm going to do with these three recent reads. (And I'll try and get my reviewing mojo back by my next post.)
The Littlest Library by Poppy Alexander is a cute story set in a quaint English village; it reminded me a lot of Rosamunde Pilcher's books, though not as good. I wanted there to be more when it came to Jess and Aidan's friendship/romance.

Lark, I think your 'non-reviews' are indeed 'reviews'. Ha! Feel free to do them this way whenever. I know what you mean though. Sometimes the thought of a more formal review is just a bit tiresome. Ha! That's kind of a place I'm in myself.
ReplyDeleteIt can be tiresome to write a "real" review. It does help me remember the book better when I do it, but lately I'm not feeling too motivated. :)
DeleteYes! Yes, yes, yes, absolutely I understand. I feel like that quite a lot. And for what it's worth I like a very short review better than I like really, really long ones... which I often skim read or fail to get to the end of. These days I do the odd longer one but mostly shorter. I think whatever suits you is good, we're not being paid after all. :-)
ReplyDeleteI don't always read really long reviews either. And I certainly don't like to write them. I would have done haikus for these, but the plots just didn't lend themselves to poetry this week.

DeleteI love your non-review idea. I've done it a few times when the book blurb was sufficient and I just want to remember I read it and liked it. :) I might have to try your Tahoe mystery for the setting and I already love Roni Loren's books though I haven't started this series.

DeleteI have pledged myself to review every book I read on Goodreads and to share the review on my blog. Sometimes that's not easy but I am determined to do it, because I know the world is waiting with bated breath for my reviews! And also because it helps me to remember what I've read.
ReplyDelete;D One of the reasons I started a bookish blog was because I was reading so many books I was starting to forget what I read and I thought writing about them and reviewing them would help me remember them better. And it does to a certain extent.

DeleteI feel that way alot. Reviewing is tough and I find that knowing I have to review slows down the number pf books I could be reading each month. I too want to try to write shorter reviews

DeleteI love this! I absolutely have books like this -- sometimes even books that I love, but I can't figure out what to say other than "this was great! you should read this book!!"

I've considered doing a sorta "Book Spotlight" post on my blog for them, but I just haven't gotten around to it yet. I love your idea of doing these short "non-reviews". So cool! :)

DeleteI totally love this! So many times I just want to say "it was good, read it!" and be done. I used to do reviews sort of like this and call them "short and tweet" writing a review the length (or thereabouts) of a tweet. I should do those more. Sometimes I'm just scratching my head over what to say. And I'm sure people don't mind reading short reviews.

DeleteThese reviews are helpful and draw me in. I hate that I can't review all the books I read and I have a goal to be able to cut down the length of my reviews and quit stressing about it. But I am not there yet.
