She's a Vampyre; he's a Were. They're supposed to be enemies.
She's grown up without love or family. He's never found his mate.
Their arranged marriage is a political alliance.
They're not supposed to fall in love.
But then their worlds collide and everything changes.
This paranormal romance is such a fun read! Misery Lark is a sympathetic and spunky character. And I loved her swoony relationship with Lowe Moreland. There's also great banter and humor. 4.5/5 stars.
Midnight Movie by J.L. Bryan
Ellie Jordan is a ghost trapper. She and her partner, Stacey, are investigating the strange paranormal phenomena happening at a local Drive-In movie theater that's being renovated. Is it being haunted by the ghost of the previous owner? A murdered actress from the old movies that they used to show there? Or something more sinister? This is another fun ghostly mystery with humor, atmosphere and a suspenseful ending. Though it's not as scary as some of his other Ellie Jordan books. Ellie and Stacey and their boyfriends, Jacob and Michael, are great characters. I really like them....and this series. 4/5 stars.
Happy Reading!
These two sound like great fun. I've heard a lot about Ali Hazelwood on several Booktube channels, I'm guessing she's a good writer?
ReplyDeleteI've enjoyed Ali Hazelwood's STEM romances, and thought she did a good job with this first paranormal romance. I really like her characters, though sometimes I could do without the extended sex scene she always seems to include. Her newest book veers more towards erotica, so I did not read that one.
DeleteBoth of these books sound like so much fun! I've been in the mood for vampire books again lately, so I'm adding Bride to my wishlist. :)
ReplyDeleteYou'll really like Misery Lark. She's such a great character. And I just finished reading My Vampire Plus-One by Jenna Levine which was also fun. :D
DeleteBoth of those sound really good.
ReplyDeleteI obviously really enjoyed both of them. :D
DeleteThe Hazelwood in particular sounds fun to me.
ReplyDeleteThe characters are SO great. Just know there's a pretty spicy sex scene near the end that I could have done without, but that's how Hazelwood rolls.
DeleteThis being the month of Haloween I want to get in at least one book that focuses on ghosts and Midnight Movie sounds great, an old movie theater haunted by the ghost of a murdered actress whose films used to play there has me so interested. And I am hoping they find the killer and bring them to justice!
ReplyDeleteI really like J.L. Bryan's Ellie Jordan, Ghost Trapper series. He writes some very fun ghost stories that are always suspenseful, but not too scary.
DeleteI don't think either of these are for me but I always enjoy reading your thoughts on the books you have read.
ReplyDelete:D Thanks for always commenting. I really appreciate it.
DeleteMidnight Movie looks really good and I've been in the mood for ghostly books lately. I'm on the fence about Bride. I like Ali Hazelwood's books - or at least the one I've read - but I'm normally not a big fan of vampires and whatnot.
ReplyDeleteI'm not a big fan of vampires either, especially sparkly ones. But I think you would like Misery Lark. Hazelwood does a really good job of making her sympathetic & vulnerable, yet also spunky and tough. And her interactions with the Weres made for some fun snark and banter.
DeleteLoved Bride, too! I think I have several of the Ellie Jordan novels, I just need to make time to read them!
ReplyDeleteThe Ellie Jordan books read really fast. So you could probably finish one in a day, or two. And I'm kind of hoping Hazelwood writes a sequel to Bride. :D
DeleteI don't love paranormal books but can see the draw. Glad these were fun.
ReplyDeleteSometimes I'm just in a paranormal/supernatural mood. :D
DeleteGlad you enjoyed these :)
ReplyDeleteHey, Cindy! Thanks for coming by and commenting. I always appreciate hearing from you. :D
DeleteBoth seem good reads for Halloween time. Trapping ghosts, boo!
ReplyDeleteShe goes after those scary mean ghosts that are haunting people, and it's never easy getting them trapped.
DeleteGlad to know that Bride was a hit for you. I have it on my reading list. I hope to get to it soon.
ReplyDeleteHope you enjoy it. :D
