Top Ten Tuesday...

Top Ten Tuesday is a fun weekly meme hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl.

This week's theme is a Freebie--which is always fun, but can be a bit challenging, too, at least for me, because I always seem to have a hard time deciding what to do. So what did I finally come up with?

Here's my top ten list of Pride & Prejudice Retellings.  I read and really enjoyed the first five books, and the last five books are ones I hope to read soon.

1. Chaos Comes to Longbourn by Victoria Kincaid

2. Disenchanted by Kara Pleasants

3. Heartstone by Elle Katherine White

4. Speechless by Jessie Lewis

5. Dangerous Magic by Monica Fairview

6. Pirates and Prejudice by Kara Louise

7. Blinded by Prejudice by KaraLynne Mackrory

8. Haunting Mr. Darcy by KaraLynne Mackrory

9. Unwilling by Elizabeth Adams

10. So Material a Change by Amy D'Orazio

Honorable Mention:  Pride & Prejudice & Zombies
(The movie version; I've never read the book.)

What's your favorite Pride and Prejudice retelling or variation?
If you have one, please let me know!

Happy Reading!

  1. I loved the movie, P&P and Zombies. Huge fun. I've had Heartstone on my radar for a while, I'm guessing it's good? And I like the sound of The Haunting of Mr. Darcy. :-) Funnily enough I'm reading a P&P off-shoot right now, The Other Bennet Sister. If you haven't read it I can 'highly' recommend it. :-)

    1. Hi, Cath! P&P and Zombies is the best; I love that movie. And I think you'd like Heartstone. It's a fantasy version of P&P with dragons. :)

  2. I love Pride and Prejudice but don't think I've actually read any of the retellings. I hope you enjoy the last five books on your list when you read them!

    1. Thanks. Even if they're not stellar reads, they look like they'll at least be fun ones. :)

  3. I absolutely love all of Jane Austen's book but I'm not a huge fan of retellings or sequels written by other people than the author, and not just with Jane Austen. Still, maybe one of them is even interesting for me. Which on would you recommend?

My TTT talks about the weather this week.

    1. I have mixed feelings about authors who write books off of Jane Austen. I don't mind retellings like these where they just put their own fun spin on P&P, but I don't love the books like Longbourn where the author continues the stories of Elizabeth or Jane or her other characters. As for these P&P retellings, if you like fantasy and magic you might like Heartstone or Dangerous Magic. And Chaos Comes to Longbourn was a book that just totally made me laugh.

    2. I know what you mean. Jane Austen had left some ideas as what was to happen to the sisters but still ... I don't really like magic or fantasy, so I'll probably give taht a miss. Still, thanks, Lark.

  6. Thanks Lark. Pride and Prejudice is my favorite Janre Austen novel and one of my favorite novels period so this is a great list with books by contemporary authors using a Pride and Prejudice theme for their novels.

    1. They can be a lot of fun to read, though they never come close to being as good as the original. :)

  8. It's hard to think of any book that has inspired more spinoffs and retellings than Pride and Prejudice. Well, the Bible, maybe.

  18. Oh my goodness, what a fun topic! I'm a total fan of the movie of Pride & Prejudice & Zombies -- what an amazing cast, and I just love so many of the scenes. I haven't read any of these, but I'm going to check out a few. One of my favorite P&P retellings is called Unequal Affections -- I don't know a ton of people who've read it, but I thought it was such an interesting take!
