December's Bookish Art....

Vittore Carpaccio -- The Virgin Reading

"That is part of the beauty of all literature. You discover that your longings are universal longings, that you're not lonely and isolated from anyone. You belong."

  2. Really stunning painting. Oddly, the Fitzgeralds and their rather hedonistic lifestyle on the French Riviera was explored briefly in a doc. I was watching last night. Made me want to know more.

  7. That's a wonderful quote from Fitzgerald.

I don't think I'd ever heard of Carpaccio until just the other day when I was reading something about him. That's a great painting.

  8. I love the quote and not quite what I would expect from Fitzgerald. I love the art as well. I love the paintings of gorgeous people in gorgeous clothes reading but honestly when I read I'm more of a feet up, comfy clothes, and a blanket kind of person!

  9. So very true. Reading connects us now and connects us to the past.

  11. That is one of the most beautiful parts of reading, to feel someone has the same feelings. And your art adds to that, as well. Even in days long gone, people used to read and find comfort in it.
