This week's theme is supposed to be Favorite Places to Read. But I have to admit, I wasn't really feeling that, because I mostly read on the couch, or outside on my patio. Not very exciting places to post about. So I changed it up. Here's my top ten list for this week:
Favorite settings/places in books I love to read about:
1. Mars
(Space is good, too, but there's something about the red planet that I especially love.)
2. Deep caves and mysterious caverns.
3. Remote islands
4. The Alaskan Wilderness
5. Scotland, Cornwall, Paris or Venice.
6. Antarctica
(Though books set in the Arctic are always good, too.)
7. Old houses that might be haunted.
(Because I love a good ghost story!)
8. A boarding school or elite private college.
9. Any ancient ruins
(Especially ones with a supernatural vibe.)
10. Amazon rainforest
(Although any jungle setting will do.)
11. Quirky towns
(Especially if they're near a beach.)

DeleteNice list for sure. I love remote islands, school settings, any time of beach town and books that take place in New England, especially when actual towns are mentioned.

Old haunted houses are so fun to read about. And there's just something about Scotland. I got to go there once on vacation, but I'd love to go back someday. :)
DeleteI mostly read on my bed or on a lounge chair in my house, so I'm pretty basic as well. Although, I like reading by the pool when it isn't a million degrees outside. I also read in the car (audio) because of my two hour daily commute. I love all these settings, though! Paris, Alaska, Antartica, and old fashioned house, yes! Small town by the lake or beach? Yes to that, too.

I'm glad to know At Summer's End has a happy ending. I don't want to waste my time reading sad books right now. :)
DeleteActually those would all be great places to read, too! It used to be I could read anywhere, but nowadays it's pretty much one of two comfy chairs...

DeleteOther than space, I'm with you on all of these. I'm especially big on creepy old houses and any kind of remote location (as long as it's still on earth)! I love that we enjoy reading about lots of the same locations—that's why I get so many great reading recommendations from you :)

DeleteNeedless to say I enjoy all of those settings too. LOL! For vintage Mars short stories, The Lost Planet: The Golden Age of the Red Planet edited by Mike Ashley is not bad.

DeleteWhat a great list, Cath...some of your favorite settings are on my list, too. I particular like, too, reading books set in countries or cities that I'm somewhat familiar with already because it's easier for me to picture everything that's happening.
