Top Ten Tuesday is a fun weekly meme hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl.
This week's theme is supposed to be Favorite Places to Read. But I have to admit, I wasn't really feeling that, because I mostly read on the couch, or outside on my patio. Not very exciting places to post about. So I changed it up. Here's my top ten list for this week:
Favorite settings/places in books I love to read about:
1. Mars
(Space is good, too, but there's something about the red planet that I especially love.)
2. Deep caves and mysterious caverns.
3. Remote islands
4. The Alaskan Wilderness
5. Scotland, Cornwall, Paris or Venice.
6. Antarctica
(Though books set in the Arctic are always good, too.)
7. Old houses that might be haunted.
(Because I love a good ghost story!)
8. A boarding school or elite private college.
9. Any ancient ruins
(Especially ones with a supernatural vibe.)
10. Amazon rainforest
(Although any jungle setting will do.)
11. Quirky towns
(Especially if they're near a beach.)
Happy Reading!
Haha, I also did a twist on the topic, not on places I'd like to read but places I visited in my books. LOL
ReplyDeleteMy TTT.
Ooh...that's a good twist on this week's TTT. Can't wait to see your list of books. :)
DeleteMe, too! Well, I'm less enthusiastic about jungles, but all of the rest are favorites!
ReplyDelete:D I think I like reading about jungles because I know I'd never enjoy actually being in one...too humid and too many bugs!
DeleteNice list for sure. I love remote islands, school settings, any time of beach town and books that take place in New England, especially when actual towns are mentioned.
ReplyDeleteBeach town books are so great. And that school setting gets me every time. :)
DeleteI love how specific some of your setting are! :) I love reading stories set in Scotland, too. And old houses (with a possibility of a good haunting).
ReplyDeleteHere's my TTT Post
Old haunted houses are so fun to read about. And there's just something about Scotland. I got to go there once on vacation, but I'd love to go back someday. :)
DeleteI mostly read on my bed or on a lounge chair in my house, so I'm pretty basic as well. Although, I like reading by the pool when it isn't a million degrees outside. I also read in the car (audio) because of my two hour daily commute. I love all these settings, though! Paris, Alaska, Antartica, and old fashioned house, yes! Small town by the lake or beach? Yes to that, too.
ReplyDeleteIn answer to your question from yesterday: Yes, there's a happy ending! I hate sad ones, so thank goodness! :)
I'm glad to know At Summer's End has a happy ending. I don't want to waste my time reading sad books right now. :)
DeleteActually those would all be great places to read, too! It used to be I could read anywhere, but nowadays it's pretty much one of two comfy chairs...
ReplyDeleteI'm with you on having a comfy reading chair; it's a must!
DeleteI'm very interested in reading about Antarctica and quirky towns, too.
ReplyDeleteQuirky towns are just so fun. And that remoteness and harsh environment of Antarctica gets me every time. :)
DeleteYou've just about covered the universe with this one!
ReplyDeleteI know! Might have been a shorter list if I'd gone with settings I didn't love. ;D
DeleteOther than space, I'm with you on all of these. I'm especially big on creepy old houses and any kind of remote location (as long as it's still on earth)! I love that we enjoy reading about lots of the same locations—that's why I get so many great reading recommendations from you :)
ReplyDeleteHappy TTT!
Creepy old houses are definitely fun to read about! And I love that we read so similarly; makes chatting about books with you even more fun. :)
DeleteQuirky towns are so much fun to read about.
ReplyDeleteThey really are! And they work for any kind of plot: romance, mystery, ghost story, etc.
DeleteI love reading about old houses (that may be haunted) and ancient ruins too! :)
ReplyDelete-Quinley
Haunted houses and ancient ruins...two of my favorite things. :D Thanks for commenting!
DeleteNeedless to say I enjoy all of those settings too. LOL! For vintage Mars short stories, The Lost Planet: The Golden Age of the Red Planet edited by Mike Ashley is not bad.
ReplyDeleteWe like the same settings because we read so similarly. :D And I haven't read those Mars short stories, but they sound like fun.
DeleteThis is a great list!! I love old houses as well and quirky towns near the beach!
ReplyDeleteAnd when a book is set in an old house in a quirky town near the beach it's even better! :)
DeleteA great list! Old houses are such great characters in books.
ReplyDeleteWhen you get the chance, I hope you stop by my post: https://readbakecreate.com/10-books-with-travel-locations-in-their-title/
Old houses do really add to a story, don't they?
DeleteAncient ruins and islands are good for me too. Caves and Mars as well. Did you ever read Before Mars by Emma Newman?
ReplyDelete#5, antarctica, and boarding schools as well. I agree with so many of these!
Before Mars sounds familiar, but I don't think I ever read it.
DeleteI love all of these settings too. Quirky towns are probably my favorite, though. Never know what kind of interesting characters and situations will pop up there. :D
ReplyDeleteExactly! That's why they're so fun to read about. :)
DeleteI like reading about quirky towns, too.
ReplyDeleteHere's my TTT list.
They're fun. And they're always filled with unique and memorable characters. :)
DeleteYes. Quirky, small towns often come with interesting personalities. :)
DeleteWhat a great list, Cath...some of your favorite settings are on my list, too. I particular like, too, reading books set in countries or cities that I'm somewhat familiar with already because it's easier for me to picture everything that's happening.
ReplyDeleteWoops...just noticed that I called you Cath. It's been one of those days. LOL
DeleteIt's okay. I don't mind being mistaken for her. :D
DeleteI agree with most of those. I really like Alaska and Scotland. But I like alien worlds too.
ReplyDeleteAlien worlds can be a lot of fun! :)
DeleteThese are all such great choices. The Alaskan wilderness is one of my favorites too.
ReplyDeleteAlaska's just fun to read about. Especially in a romance! :)
DeleteI love your imaginative list! Dark caves! Wow!
ReplyDelete:D They've always intrigued me...but I don't actually want to go in one. I just like reading about them. :)
DeleteThese are all great places to read about! I enjoy them as well. My favorite place to read used to be in a tree when I was a kid. Now it's the porch.
ReplyDeleteI don't climb trees any more either. Porches and couches for me. :)
DeleteI'm right there with you on your #7, and would add abandoned asylums to that list.
ReplyDeleteAbandoned asylums are very creepy...and very fun to read about! Thanks for commenting. :)
DeleteHonestly, I thought Mars was an inspired choice for this list!
ReplyDelete:D Thanks!
DeleteAwesome list, though you won't find me on Mars! And, not so much the Antarctica, but I'll see you in Scotland, Cornwall, Venice, and Paris (my faves too), boarding schools and college, quirky towns, and the Alaskan wilderness!
ReplyDeleteSo many fun settings to read about, aren't there? I'm glad we like so many of the same ones. :)
DeleteThat's a great list and I totally agree with your choices! I'd rather read these settings in books than explore them in reality, lol. :)
ReplyDeleteYes! Some things are just better experienced in a book. :D
DeleteWell, I'm kind of tired of seeing Mars around ;-). But I love the ancient ruins settings, followed closely by Scotland and old haunted houses. Great list!!
ReplyDeleteThere should be more books set around ancient ruins! They're fun. :)
DeleteGreat list. I agree with all of yours!
ReplyDeleteThanks! :D
DeleteGreat twist on the topic, Lark. I love quirky towns and of course Scotland, Paris and the English Countryside are favourites of mine.
ReplyDeleteAnd when you get a quirky town set in Scotland or England it's awesome! :)
