Fernand Toussaint -- Peaceful Reading |
"...this young lady had been seated alone with a book. To say that she had a book is to say that her solitude did not press upon her; for her love of knowledge had a fertilizing quality and her imagination was strong."
--Henry James, The Portrait of a Lady
What a gorgeous picture! I love the colors. And I wonder what she is reading :)
ReplyDeleteI do, too! :) In fact, I think I'd like to be her for a day.

ReplyDeleteI love this painting. Wish I had it hanging in my house. :)
DeleteI love this painting and the quote! I haven't read much Henry James, but I want to read one of his novels this year.
ReplyDeleteThe Portrait of a Lady was the first Henry James novel I ever read, and I have loved his books ever since. His novellas are great, too, and a good place to start if you've never read him before.
