A few bookish stats...

Five fiction favs that I read this year and loved, but didn't blog about:

  • Seeking Persephone by Sarah M. Eden
  • When Falcons Fall by C. S. Harris
  • Uprooted by Naomi Novik
  • A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E. Schwab
  • Dead Iron by Devon Monk
Biggest disappointment (but only because my expectations were so high!):

  • Daisy in Chains by Sharon Bolton

Favorite non-fiction read:  Leonard by William Shatner

Favorite new series: The Pax Arcana series by Elliott James starring a very charming John Charming

2016 Reading Challenges finished:
Reading New England
Reading England
Reading Bingo

2016 By the Numbers:
# of books read from my TBR shelf:  5
# of new books added to my TBR shelf: 6
(That's a net loss; I really need to do better next year!)
# of Classics read:  14
# of Rereads:  11
# of Non-fiction reads:  16
# of Fiction books read:  131

From newly published books to the classics, mysteries and romance, science fiction, young adult, fantasy and suspense, I'd say 2016 was a good reading year for me. I had a lot of fun discovering new authors and revisiting favorite ones. And I already have a long list of books I can't wait to read next year.

Happy 2016!
(And Happy Reading.)

    1. Good for you! I need to do better with my TBR shelf in 2017. After all, I bought the books in the first place because I wanted to read them, right? So I should probably read them. :)

  3. I'm glad this has been a good reading year for you! I enjoyed Daisy in Chains, but it isn't one of my favourite Sharon Bolton books. My expectations were probably too high as well.

    1. I just didn't think it was as good as her other books. And I had a hard time connecting to either of her main characters.

  5. I love year end stats! Thanks for sharing. I read Uprooted in 2016 as well and really liked it. I am curious about trying Novik’s Temeraire series but haven’t taken the plunge yet.

    1. I haven't read any other of Novik's books either, but after reading Uprooted I'm tempted. If you do try her Temeraire series, let me know how you like it!

  6. Leonard sounds like a fantastic book. I should get that for my boyfriend for his birthday. But then, he rarely has time to read!

    1. If he likes Star Trek he might make time for this book because not only is it about Leonard Nimoy, but it's written by William Shatner...and that's a great combination!

  7. Oh, I need the Leonard Cohen book! I really liked Uprooted and enjoyed the first book in the Temeraire series, but began losing interest in them. Uprooted is so much more! Daisy in Chains was not my favorite Bolton either, but I liked the first book with John Charming and need to follow up on that series. :)

    1. The second book in the Charming series isn't my favorite, but I really liked books #3 and #4...and am looking forward to the release of #5 this April. :)

  8. Looks like you had a really good year! Uprooted was so gorgeous. I'm glad to hear you enjoyed Leonard; it's on my list to listen to this year. And Charming is on my to-read list, as is A Darker Shade of Magic (which I actually started, but had to put aside for other books and never got back to it before it went back to the library. But I have a Kindle copy now.) I look forward to delving into those!

  9. I'm really looking forward to reading Uprooted this year. I am glad to see it on your top five list! I did a top five list too which will post tonight/tomorrow. I'm always behind . . . That's too bad about Daisy in Chains. I've only read one of Bolton's books which I loved. I need to read more of her books.

I look forward to seeing what you read in 2017, Lark!

    1. Thanks! And right back at you! I've added quite a few titles to my To Read list from reading your blog, and am counting on adding even more this year. :)

  10. I was a little disappointed in DAISY IN CHAINS, too. It's not Bolton's best, that's for sure. The subject matter made it a tough read, although I guess that's par for the course with Bolton -- this one just disturbed me more than some of her others.
