Haiku reviews...

The Other Side of Lost by Jessi Kirby

Tired of faking life,
Mari quits all social media
to hike the John Muir trail.

YA fiction .... 307 pages .... 5/5 stars.
(I loved Mari's journey of self-healing as much as her hiking adventure

The Grumpy Side of Paradise by Brittany Larsen

Eve's in Paradise to
rehab a house, not find love.
Then she meets Adam.

Sweet romantic comedy .... 306 pates .... 4/5 stars.
(Fun small town, grumpy vs. sunshine romance.)

Fairest of Heart by Karen Witemeyer

Seven old cowboys.
One Texas Ranger. And fair
Penelope Snow.

Historical romance .... 345 pages .... 4/5 stars.
(Cute retelling of Snow White set in Texas, 1892.)

Happy Reading!

  2. Love the idea of The Other Side of Lost! It's something I fantasize about, but would probably never do, lol. Fairest of Heart sounds like my kind of read, too! Wonderful reviews, Lark! :)

    1. I know what you mean! I'd love to hike a trail like that, but I doubt I'd get very far on it if I ever did try. Still very fun to read about. :D

  6. I really enjoyed Fairest of Heart. I thought it was such a fun idea to retell Snow White in a western setting. :D

    1. Snow White as a western was a very fun idea! I loved the seven cowboys and how much they were like the seven dwarves. :D

    1. I love fairy tale retellings, too. And this one was unique. I don't think I've read another one set in Texas in the 1890s. I liked the mash-up of Western and fairy tale romance. :D

    2. I doubt I could do them at all. I'm not even much into reading poetry, so how should I be able to write it.

    3. Well, the great thing about Haiku is that it doesn't have to rhyme, or follow any kind of rules or order other than having 3 lines of 5,7,5 syllables respectively, which makes it an easier kind of poem to write. (Though I still go over the syllable count depending on how easy or hard it is to sum up a book's plot in three lines. ;D )

    4. I can understand that. Maybe I should try it one day. But I always had a problem with keeping things short.

  11. Your haiku made me want to read The Other Side of Lost if only to discover the route of the John Muir trail. Now that I've retired, weekly hikes are becoming a thing I can actually maybe do!
