I'm very happy that Karen @ Books and Chocolate is hosting this reading challenge again this year. I've participated in it three times before and it's always fun. And I already have a list of classic novels that I want to read this year. I just have to figure out which book will fit in which category. Karen has come up with twelve great categories--some are the same as last year's challenge, and some are new:
A 19th Century Classic
A 20th Century Classic
A Classic by a Woman Author
A Classic in translation
A Classic by a BIPOC Author
Mystery/Detective/Crime Classic
A Classic Short Story Collection
Pre-1800 Classic
A Nonfiction Classic
A Classic that's been on your TBR list the longest
A Classic set in a place you'd like to visit
Wild Card Classic
Aren't they fun categories? The two hardest for me will be finding a classic that's set in a place I'd like to visit, and making myself finally read one of the two Pre-1800 classics I have sitting on my shelves. I don't know if I'll manage to finish all twelve categories this year, but I'm going to try. And if I only get six books read, that's okay, too. If you want to join in and read some classics this year, you can find all the rules and sign up for this challenge here: Back to the Classics 2022.
Happy Reading!
I think this is going to be a lot of fun! I'm not expecting to get all twelve done but hey... you never know! So pleased you're doing this too. :-)
ReplyDeleteI look forward to seeing what classics you read for this challenge, and your thoughts on them. And hey, we both might manage to read books in all 12 categories, because you do never know. :)
DeleteI was delighted to see that Karen had announced this challenge for 2022.
ReplyDeleteI'm very happy about it, too. It's one of my favorite reading challenges. :)
DeleteNice incentive to read more classics. I still have a list of classics to "work on" and they are all on one pile. So, whenever I finish one, the next one gets opened.
ReplyDeleteThat's a good way to do it! I have a list, too, but I don't always get started on the next book like I should.
Deletewhat a nice idea! i kind of wish i was organized enough to join, but it seems a bit complicated at the moment anyhow...
ReplyDeleteIt helps when you already have a list of books you know you want to read that fit into these categories. That's what happened for me this year which does make it a lot easier.
DeleteLooking forward to what you read. So glad that Karen decided to host this again.
ReplyDeleteI am very glad Karen decided to host this one again, too! I really like doing this challenge...and seeing what everyone else reads for it, too. :D
DeleteThis looks fun! I hope you enjoy all the books you find for this challenge.
ReplyDeleteThanks! Fingers crossed I can get through all 12. :)
DeleteThat seems quite a daunting challenge. Challenges don't really fit my laissez-faire reading habits, but I admire you for taking it on.
ReplyDeleteThere are some years when I can't face doing a reading challenge either. This year I'm in the right mood for it. At least for right now. We'll see how long my mood lasts. ;D
DeleteWhat a fun challenge! Love the variety with the categories too. Good luck, Lark! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Ashley! :D
DeleteThis does sound fun! I wish you the best with reaching your goal this year, Lark. I enjoy the classics from time to time, but do not seem to do well when it comes to taking part in challenges involving them. I look forward to seeing what you choose to read for this one!
ReplyDeleteI've found that if I don't do this kind of reading challenge I never seem to have time to read any classics at all.
DeleteThose are good categories. I hope you have fun with this.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Mary! :)
DeleteHi Lark, Good luck with the challenge and can't wait to see which classics you choose. I know what you mean about pre 1800 classics being a harder category. I guess for me it's because when it comes to classics I like novels and pre 1800 there are not that many novels to choose from.
ReplyDeleteAnd when you do find a novel written Pre-1800 they never read like a novel, you know? Some of that prose can be a real slog. But I do have two to choose from, so I hope I can get through at least one of them. :)
DeleteOh boy! This really is a challenge! I'll be rooting for you Lark!
ReplyDeleteThank you! I appreciate that. :D
DeleteYou did well with this challenge last year so I'm sure you'll nail it again. Good luck to you, Lark! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Rachel! :D
DeleteFun! A place I'd like to visit- yeah finding a classic set in a locale like that could be challenging. Good luck with thse though!
ReplyDeleteThank you! It'll be interesting to see how many of these classics I actually get read this year. :)
DeleteThis is my second year participating in the challenge and I am excited for many of my choices. I think I am anticipating The Great (Kristin Lavandsatter #1) the most, though I am also looking forward to Silas Marner, which I have recently heard several bloggers rave about!
ReplyDeleteHere is my list, if interested! https://elle-alice.blogspot.com/2022/01/back-to-classics-2022.html
Silas Marner is a good one! I really like that book. Thanks for commenting. I look forward to checking out your post. :)
DeleteThis looks like a fun challenge. Good luck with it!
ReplyDeleteThank you! I might need a little luck with this one. :)
DeleteHave fun making your list of classics! I love the category about a place you want to visit--I am a diehard armchair traveler and love to read about places before I visit them.
ReplyDeleteThat category has been tricky for me for some reason, but I think I might have a book for it now. And I know what you mean about being a diehard armchair traveler! I'm one, too. :)
DeleteHmmm... I really should read more classics. I may try this one later on in the year.
ReplyDeleteHave lots of fun with the 2022 Back to the Classics Challenge, Lark! :D
Thanks! I'm excited about the list of classics I have, now I just need to read them. ;)
DeleteOh nice, you're participating in this challenge too! I just signed up, and I hope I'll see this one through.
ReplyDeleteI'm hoping I see it through, too. Good luck! :)
DeleteI'm so glad you're joining the challenge again this year!
ReplyDeleteI couldn't resist. Plus, it makes me read the classics on my TBR list. :)
DeleteChoosing is often a dilemma when you have quite a few options XD. Have a wonderful fourth year of reading!
