Top Ten Tuesday is a fun weekly meme hosted by Jana at That Artsy Reader Girl.
This week's theme: The First 10 Books I Randomly Grabbed From My Shelves.
I wanted to make this list truly random, so I numbered the shelves in my bedroom and pulled out my 12-sided and 20-sided dice...then rolled for what shelf and what book. (Yes, I own a set of Dungeons and Dragons dice; I'm more than just a book nerd. 🐉 ) Anyway, here are 10 Random Books from my Shelves.
The Rose Revived by Katie Fforde
(I love Fforde's romances and own several of them, but this was the first one I ever read.)
Cakes and Ale by W. Somerset Maugham
(He's one of my favorite classic authors...and this is my second favorite book by him.)
Nightlife by Rob Thurman
(This is the compelling first book in a very action-packed urban fantasy series that I love with brothers Cal and Nikos Leandros.)
Maiden Voyage by Tania Aebi
(This is a fantastic nonfiction read about a girl who sails around the world alone.
I love travel memoirs and have read this one many times.)
The Man Who Listens to Horses by Monty Roberts
(This is another excellent nonfiction book...and one I actually bought in hardback when it came out.)
The Woman in White by Wilkie Collins
(Another favorite classic novel! I love the way this mystery unfolds.)
The Day of the Storm by Rosamunde Pilcher
(Pilcher's romances are so magical; I especially love this one.)
Well Met by Jen DeLuca
(Who doesn't love a sweet and swoony romance set at a Renaissance Faire?)
The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson
(This was my introduction to Scandinavian thrillers and I loved it!)
The Club Dumas by Arturo Perez-Reverte
(His books are amazing!)
Though randomly chosen, these 10 books are a good representation of the kinds of books I love to read: thrillers, romances, urban fantasy, classics, mystery, and nonfiction.
Happy Reading!
Oho... there's a book about Dumas' manuscript? The title reminds me of Dante Club, also a murder-thriller around Dante's translation project. It's always exciting to find modern books about classics.
ReplyDeleteIt's been ages since I last read Maugham (Of Human Bondage). Cakes and Ale is the next in my list.
I think I read the Dante Club. By Matthew Pearl? I liked that one, too. And I hope you get a chance to read Cakes and Ale. It's one of Maugham's lighter novels.
DeleteWow, I like that - using dice to select the books! I've loved Woman in White too and Somerset Maugham's short stories (never read one of this novels though). I've never read Pilcher before, should fix that.
ReplyDeleteYou should definitely try one of Pilcher's books. They're all so good. And I like almost all of Maugham's novels. :D
DeleteCal <3 I love that series too!! I wish the author still wrote that series.
ReplyDeleteI wish she was still writing about Cal and Nikos, too! It's a great series. :D
DeleteLots for me to look up here, especially that Rosamunde Pilcher that I'd not heard of.
ReplyDeleteIt's one of her shorter romances, but I love the characters in it! :D
DeleteI like the simple layout of Cakes and Ale.
ReplyDeleteThe cover is beautifully designed. Thanks for commenting.
DeleteYou’re making me want to reread The Woman in White. :)
ReplyDeleteMy post: https://lydiaschoch.com/top-ten-tuesday-the-first-10-books-i-randomly-grabbed-from-my-shelf/
The Woman in White is one of my favorite books. I love the way it's told, and the characters. It's a great classic.
DeleteI loved The Dragon Tattoo series! Well, the original trilogy. I also have Well Met on my shelf and haven't read it yet.
ReplyDeleteMy Top Ten!
Well Met is a very fun and humorous romance! It'd make a great summer read. :D
DeleteI'm not familiar with most of these writers but you've mentioned two of my personal favorites - the Larsson book and the classic from Collins.
ReplyDeleteThey are two of my favorite books, too! Doing this list makes me want to reread both of them. :D
DeleteWell Met! I loved that book!
ReplyDeleteIt's the best of the bunch...though I liked all the others and really loved Well Traveled, too. :D
DeleteYou rolled dice- that is so cool. :) I love my 20 sided.
ReplyDeleteNightlife looks good to me- a few years back when I was trying to read more urban fantasy I remember looking at that series.
I think you would like Nightlife a lot. The brothers in it are such great characters! And what would we do without 20-sided dice? ;D
DeleteI read The Club Dumas as was disappointed with it!! I had such high hopes it would be a great read. I was lucky enough to met Arturo Perez-Reverte in 2016 at a book signing abd have a signed copy of 'What We Become'.
ReplyDeleteThat's cool that you got to meet Arturo Perez-Reverte! I've read and loved many of his books. :D
DeleteI find it too cool that you own Dungeons and Dragons dice. I've never played the game.
ReplyDeleteI haven't played in awhile, but it's a lot of fun. All that magic and treasure seeking. :D
DeleteI love that you rolled the dice!!! A nice mix, it does suit you well :)
ReplyDeleteI knew if I pointed at my shelves I'd be tempted to point towards certain books and not others, and then my list would not be random...so dice it was. ;D
DeleteI used a random number generator if it helps you feel a little less nerdy! I own that Rosamunde Pilcher but am not sure if I've read it. Now I need to go look at my shelves again! Good mix of books.
ReplyDeleteThanks! I do feel a little bit better. ;D
DeleteA lot of new writers on this list. I'm clicking away reading about all these books!
ReplyDelete:D Always glad to add to someone else's TBR list.
DeleteThe Club Dumas is on my TBR list.
ReplyDeleteIt and The Flanders Panel are my two favorite books by Perez-Reverte! :D
DeleteNice list! I haven't read any of these and, honestly, I haven't even heard of most of them. MAIDEN VOYAGE looks like one I'd enjoy, too.
ReplyDeleteHappy TTT!
I love Maiden Voyage...all the places she sails to and the adventures she has along the way.
DeleteHaha, I love how you made your picks this week! Awesome approach. Great mix of books too!
ReplyDelete:D Thanks. Rolling dice was the only way I could think of to truly make it random.
DeleteLove the cover of The Rose Revived. Looks like a romance I'd enjoy. I've always wanted to read The Woman in White. I think I've watched a film adaptation? Maybe. Fun how you made sure your picks were random. Lol on not just being a book nerd! I'm a nerd on a lot of levels, too! :)
ReplyDeleteHere's to all the nerds! ;D And if you've never read any of Katie Fforde's books, you should definitely try one. She writes some very fun romances.
DeleteIt's obvious these truly were chosen at random with how eclectic the mix is! :) I loved Well Met and The Girl with the Dragoon Tattoo. So different but both so good.
ReplyDeleteMy bookshelves are a very eclectic mix of books, but that's how I read. :D
DeleteI couldn't figure out how to make this truly random because even with my eyes closed, I know where my books are on my shelves. I love this dice idea! So clever!
ReplyDeleteThat was my problem, too. And on some of my shelves I have the books double-stacked, which complicates the issue of closing your eyes and pointing. Rolling dice was the only thing that made sense. :D
DeleteNice list! Nightlife sounds so good. I still need to start that series. :)
ReplyDeleteI love Cal and his brother. They're such great characters!
DeleteI have only read a few of these authors, but there are several thtat sound appealing. I have read The Day of the Storm, but I guess it wasn't one of my favorite Rosamund Pilcher novels because I don't think I kept a copy on my shelves. I love some of her other books, though! And Jen De Luca's Well Met was a lot of fun; I plan to read the rest of the series.
ReplyDeleteWell Met was so much fun! I like all of the sequels, too, though not quite as much as the first one. It's still the best.
DeleteI haven't read any of the books on your list. Two of them are now on my TBR :)
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad! Of course, I'm also now very curious as to which two you want to read. ;D
DeleteOh, I love that you used dice! I also love that we both ended up with Larsson books. Well Met was such a cute one, too!
ReplyDeleteIt's always so fun to see similar reads on other people's bookshelves! I love connecting through books. :D
DeleteI meant to participate this week but missed it. Looks like a fun challenge and you got so many different books. Well done.
ReplyDeleteThanks. I love doing the easy TTT posts where I don't have to think too hard about my list of ten books. ;D
DeleteI don't blame you. I have done so many of the TTT challenges about three times, so that I thought I'll only do those where I really have something new. Could have done this week but ... totally forgot.
DeleteLove the variety here. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks! I'm an eclectic reader...I like to read a little bit of everything.
DeleteFun post and a fun way of picking your books! That's a great variety of books you've here. :)
ReplyDeleteYou know me...I like to read a little bit of everything. ;D
