Haiku Reviews...

Are We There Yet? by Savannah Scott

Four friends. One road trip.
Adventure, laughter, and love
on Route 66.

Romantic comedy .... 388 pages .... 4/5 stars.
(Gotta love a fun summer road trip book, especially one with such a cute romance.)

The Girls Who Disappeared by Claire Douglas

Three girls gone. Digging
for the truth, Jenna uncovers
past secrets and lies.

Thriller .... 367 pages .... 2/5 stars.
(Didn't find this one very thrilling; and I was completely underwhelmed by the "big reveal" at the end.)

Romancing the Grump by Jenny Proctor

They're only pretending
to date; then she starts to fall
in love for real.

Romantic comedy .... 343 pages .... 5/5 stars.
(A sweet hockey romance that completely charmed me.)

Happy Reading!

  1. The Girls Who Disappeared sounds like exactly the kind of book I would be drawn too, so I'm sad to hear it didn't work out.

    1. I was really hopeful when I started reading that one because the premise is intriguing. And the writing itself is fine. But there's this whole past story line threading through the novel that ended up being very important at the end... and I just didn't buy it. So the 'twist' was a total letdown for me.

  3. Too bad 'The Girls...' wasn't better. I think I've read something by that author but I can't think what.

    1. I liked her writing, but the story itself was lacking. At least, it didn't work for me.

  13. I enjoyed The Girls Who Disappeared, but I don't remember it well now. I think I thought it was a little out there/wild at the end. I think the audio enhanced my enjoyment. I like the sound of Romancing the Grump! :)

    1. Romancing the Grump is very cute and fun. And I thought the whole Thailand story line that's set in the past in The Girls Who Disappeared didn't add anything to the story...and then it plays this huge part at the end, and I just couldn't buy into it. So for me, that book just didn't work.

  16. The thriller caught my eye right away but I think it'll be a hard pass. I've read too many that have disappointed me lately. However, Romancing the Grump sounds like a winner. Who could resist a grumpy hockey player romance.
