Top Ten Tuesday is a fun weekly meme hosted by Jana at That Artsy Reader Girl.
This week's theme: BOOKS WITH A HIGH PAGE COUNT...or "Chunksters" as I like to call them. Here's 10 of the longest books I've read:
The Stand by Stephen King (1472 pages)
Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand (1168 pages)
Gone With the Wind by Margaret Mitchell (959 pages)
Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell by Susanna Clarke (846 pages)
Middlemarch by George Eliot (852 pages)
The Passage by Justin Cronin (766 pages)
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows by J.K. Rowling (759 pages)
The Fountainhead by Ayn Rand (736 pages)
Democracy in America by Alexis de Tocqueville (722 pages)
In the Spirit of Crazy Horse by Peter Matthiessen (688 pages)
Whew!
These days I prefer much shorter books, but these were all good.
Happy Reading!
Good list. I have read Gone With The Wind And Middlemarch. Both great
ReplyDeleteI've read and enjoyed four of those - Gone With the Wind, Jonathan Strange, Middlemarch and Deathly Hallows - although they're not on my list this week as I decided just to include books I've reviewed.
ReplyDeleteI was surprised how many books I have in common with others this time. But it's not a huge surprise since I read so many chunky books. "Only" four that I read from your list but that is still a lot more than in normal weeks.
ReplyDeleteHere is my list:

The Passage was a good read.
ReplyDeleteI don't read a lot of big books these days, but I'm surprised that I've read six of these! I read Ayn Rand long ago, I would never read her books today, lol.
ReplyDeleteGone with the Wind was super interesting.
ReplyDeleteHere is our Top Ten Tuesday.
My husband talked me into reading The Stand long, long ago. He loved it so much.
ReplyDeleteHa!! We both have listed Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell by Susanna Clarke in our TTT post this week... However, I've listed it as a chunkster still want to read!
ReplyDeleteI haven't read any of these but I have seen the movies for The Stand, Harry Potter and Gone With the Wind.
ReplyDeleteI've read five of those. I have "The Stand" on my reading list but so far I've found beginning it a daunting prospect. I will get to it one of these days!
ReplyDeleteI read The Stand and Gone With the Wind a long time ago. Like you, these days I am more likely to dive into the shorter books.
ReplyDeleteNice list! I've read Gone with the Wind (it wasn't a favorite, tbh) and Deathly Hallows, but none of the others. One of these days, I should read Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell.
ReplyDeleteMiddlemarch is one that I've been meaning to read for so long!!
ReplyDeleteI like long novels (and have read several of yours) but I only got a third through Democracy in America. Congratulations on that!
ReplyDeleteI haven’t read long books in a long time.

I don't read a lot of chunksters, but over the years I have read a few. Gone With the Wind is on my list today. I have Harry Potter on my TBR (I've only read the first one).
ReplyDeleteI've read 5 of these, but only The Stand popped up in my search was I was looking for my longest books! But I think different editions have different page counts, and that might account for it. Can't believe Jonathan Strange didn't come up for me when I was working on my list!
ReplyDeleteLooks like we have read some of the same books, Lark. Though I didn't make it through Atlas Shrugged.

I'm still a fan of the Harry Potter stories, despite all the conflict from the author, It was always the story for me rather than the writer.

Same! I don't have the same patience for really long books now that I once did. That's been a common theme this week, so we're not alone in that.
ReplyDeleteHappy TTT (on a Wednesday)!
