Top Ten Tuesday...

Top Ten Tuesday is a fun weekly meme hosted by Jana at That Artsy Reader Girl.

This week's theme is supposed to be BOOK COVERS IN THE COLORS OF MY COUNTRY'S FLAG.

But I changed it up a little. Since today is the Fourth of July here in America, I put together a list of Ten Books that Celebrate America's History, Heroes, and Freedoms. Because I love my country. And I loved all of these books, too.

by Richard Beeman

Lion of Liberty by Harlow Giles Unger

Sam Adams:  Pioneer in Propaganda by John Miller

Ten Tea Parties by Joseph Cummins

Henry and the Cannons by Don Brown

Hooray for Liberty, Charlie Brown by Charles M. Schulz

Happy Fourth of July!

    1. They're all good reads. My favorite is Plain, Honest Men followed by the one about Sam Adams and The Operator.

  2. 1776 was also on the list of the person right before you on Jana’s linkup!

Here is my Top Ten Tuesday post.

    1. I was struggling to find red, white and blue covers that I wanted to use and how to group them, so I went this way instead. ;D

  4. Good idea and there are some interesting books here of which I haven't read any. Yet.
    Thanks.

  6. 1776 is an excellent book, so interesting. S much better than anything I learned in Social Studies classes.

    1. Yes! McCullough does know how to make history interesting.

  7. Great list, Lark. Sort of inspired me to get back to reading history again. I kind of went into a funk about reading history books when the whole world started to rewrite history to suit themselves and no one much seemed to care they were doing it. Hopefully, we have gone a few steps past peak-absurdity now and will start acting like adults again at some point. What a world.

    1. I know what you mean! I don't like how slanted some nonfiction books are these days. Or how everyone's so critical of the founding fathers. I tend to avoid those books, as you can see by the above list. :D

  8. Hooray for Charlie Brown! (The David McCullough was good, too...) I've been meaning to read the Matthew Pearl because I liked his novels, but haven't yet. A couple of those others look interesting, too

    Happy 4th!

    1. I found the Jemima Boone book very interesting, though some of the later chapters got a little bogged down in detail imo. But Daniel Boone led a pretty incredible life.

    1. Thanks. I had a hard time pulling together any red, white and blue covers that made sense together. So I went in this direction instead.

  11. What a great selection! I have 1776 on my shelf and still need to read it -- I look forward to tackling it (soon, I hope!). My family tradition growing up was to watch the movie of the 1776 musical each 4th of July, and seeing the book here makes me think of that. Time to revive the old tradition, I think!

    1. Definitely! And I thought 1776 (the book) was very readable. But then McCullough is such a great writer.

  12. Love that you included a Charlie Brown here in the mix! Valley Forge also sounds like an interesting read. Someday I'll read more non-fiction! :)

  14. Happy Fourth of July, Lark and the Sam Adams book I would really like to read. An interesting founding father he doesn't get as much attention as he should. One young adult novel I read years ago that is a classic Johnny Tremain. It was amazing.

    1. I loved the Sam Adams book! He did lead a very fascinating life. And I remember seeing Johnny Tremain when I was a kid, but I never read it. Maybe now I should. :D

  17. What a great way to celebrate the 4th of July! As much as I enjoyed history in school, I don't really read a lot of nonfiction. This is a great list but I admit it's the Charlie Brown book that's calling my name the most! Love Peanuts :)

  23. I didn't do TTT last week since I was on vacation up in your neck of the woods. One of these days, we need to meet up when I'm there! You have a great list of patriotic books here. I haven't read any of them. I need to try McCullough at some point. I've heard great things about his books.

Happy TTT (almost a week late)!

    1. Hi, Susan! It would be fun to meet up sometime. We could go to lunch...or to a bookstore. ;D I've read two of McCullough's books and enjoyed both of them; I think The Wright Brothers is my favorite so far.
