On Reading Bingo. I'm one book away from achieving blackout on my bookish Bingo card. It's been a fun way of tracking the books I've read this year, and it's pushed me to read a few books I wouldn't otherwise have read--like a book based on a true story (Z: A Novel of Zelda Fitzgerald) and a book with non-human characters (The Humans by Matt Haig), not to mention a graphic novel, a book with a dragon (Seraphina) and a book set in another world (The Coldest Girl in Coldtown) from the YA Bingo card. If you've never played bookish Bingo there's still time to print out a card and join the fun!
On my growing TBR pile. At the start of the year I set a goal to get my stack of 29 TBR books under 20, and I was making real progress. In fact, I had almost reached my goal of having less than 20 unread books on my shelves, but then .... I ordered a few books on Amazon, and a few more from Powells, and I had a birthday ... and my once-shrinking TBR pile ballooned seemingly overnight to 34 books! So I'll be setting a new goal next year: 15 TBR in 2015. (And I'll try to keep my book buying in check until then.) Wish me luck!
Great job on bingo! Only one to go -- that's great!
ReplyDeleteI'm hung up on short stories and a forgotten classic, but I'm plotting a way through the mental block.
I'm not a huge fan of short stories but I picked up a collection of Daphne DuMaurier's and thoroughly enjoyed them.
Deletecongrats on getting so far on your Bingo!! I am trying for blackouts, too, and am getting close, but still have a few more to cram in. So much reading, so little time! I feel your pain on the TBR list. Although I have gotten through some on my shelves this year, it isn't as many as I would like. Too many books to read is probably my easiest problem, though!
ReplyDeleteI hear you. If that's the only thing you have to worry about life is pretty good. :) Good luck with your Bingo card!
DeleteI love the idea of Bingo. Congratulations on doing so well with it. What a great way to move out of your reading comfort zone.
ReplyDeleteIt's been so much fun! The great thing is you can make your own bingo card for kids, or YA. And it's a great way to keep track of what you read, too.
DeleteI love the idea of book bingo--I haven't played yet, but I can see how it would get you reading outside the lines.
ReplyDeleteThe best thing about getting your TBR pile smaller is adding to it! I think I might have an anxiety attack if I didn't have a bunch of unread books around me, but I like the TBR challenges because they motivate me to read something I got because I wanted to read it in the first place!
Happy fall and read on!
Thanks! Even though I'm not supposed to even be thinking about buying new books right now, I already have a list...Christmas might have to come early at my house. :) I'm trying to find the right balance...having books on my shelf to read, but not having too many unread books gathering dust. I haven't quite gotten it figure out yet.
DeleteAh, the never-ending TBR pile. I pride myself on keeping all of my books on one shelf but it's a big shelf...and they are several piles on that one shelf.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with your goal. You can be an inspiration to the rest of us, especially when we have Christmas and a library book sale coming up!
I love library book sales! I wish we had one coming up. I always buy way too many books at those. And don't get me started on the books I want to buy for Christmas! I'm trying to be good...but it's so hard when it comes to books. :)
