A Bookish Update

Look what Goodreads Giveaway I recently won:

I'm excited to read this latest book by Joanna Schaffhausen. Ellery Hathaway and FBI Agent Reed Markham are two of my favorite characters; although, when I first met them in The Vanishing Season, I wasn't sure I was going to like either one. But that quickly changed. And now I can't wait to read this latest adventure about them. (The second book about them, No Mercy, is also awesome.)

Gotta love this bookish tote from Out of Print! Fun isn't it?
(I should buy some for my niece and nephews who love both dinosaurs and books.)
A few more laughable spam comments...from the inexplicable to the indecipherable:
(Can you guess my favorite one this time?)

1. whoah this blog is magnificet i really like reading your articles. Stayy up the great work!

2. As he was logging off of his laptop and gathering up work to complete at home later, the receptionist alerted him that a Beverly Hills flower supply bike messenger had one thing for him.

3. Thank you for the writeup. It in fact was a amusement account it.
 Look advanced so far agreeable.

4. That is the sum of it. Betting is completely legal.

Recent read that I totally loved but didn't review
(mostly because I just couldn't find the right words):

Recently checked out of the library:

Ice Dogs by Terry Lynn Johnson
The Cold by Rich Hawkins
Vulnerable by Mary Burton
Fallen (Alex Verus #10) by Benedict Jacka
Deep Dark by Laura Griffin
The Lady in the Coppergate Tower by Nancy Campbell Allen

Ever wonder why there aren't a lot of Thanksgiving reads?
Now you know...

Happy Reading!

  4. Congrats on the win...that's always a good day.

Glad to see I'm not the only one not reviewing every book I read. Sometimes it's because the book is so complicated that I can't figure out a way to review it without spoiling it for potential readers. Other times the books are so bad that I can't bear to spend another minute thinking about them. But I've never had the opposite occur, like what happened to you with that one. I do, though, sometimes find myself struggling with the review of a book I absolutely love because I don't want to come across as some kind of fan boy.

It's funny how some reviews practically write themselves and others fight back hard not to be reviewed at all. LOL

    1. There are some books where the review practically writes itself, and others....not so much. I'm like you, if I really didn't like a book I don't want to waste time writing a review of it. And I struggle with the mediocre reads, too...the ones that are good, but not great. What do you say about those after awhile? With this one, no matter what I wrote, I just couldn't capture what I loved about this book. So I gave it up. :D

  5. Congratulations on the win, Lark! I hope you enjoy All the Best Lies like you have the other books in the series. I love that tote. :-) And those comments are funny. I've been paying more attention to my spam comments too.

I'm struggling to write a review of a book I loved too. Sometimes the words come easily and other times . . . not so much. Maybe my review will end up just being: "Wow!"

I hope you have a great week, Lark.

    1. There are some books that no matter how hard I try, the words I write never seem to equal what I thought of the book. This time, I just gave up. :D

    1. I love this series, too! And I never win anything, so I was even more surprised and happy to win a copy of this particular book. I'm so excited to read it. :)

  9. That Snoopy comic is so cute! Enjoy your library books. I'm on a break from the library but don't seem to be making progress on my stacks! haha...

    1. I should probably take a library break to work on reading some of the books I own, too, but I find I'm strangely addicted to putting on holds. ;D

  10. I personally love Snoopy's Thanksgiving tale. And you reminded me I need to check out Ice Dogs. So regarding Hearthstone Cottage, 2 words, puppy sacrifice - little tiny pups. I DNF'ed it at that point thus the no rating.

  11. Congrats on the GR win and that bag is so cute. I'd grab one if I didn't have 10 already in my car and filled with books for the LFL's (oops). I should start posting my ridiculously spam comments. I wonder why they post them. I mean, I don't get the point.

    1. I don't get the point of all the dumb spam comments either. What are they hoping to achieve?

  12. I like #4 best because it absolutely makes no sense!

Sometimes all we can say about a book is "I Loved It!".

Congrats on your win. I've won books from blogs before but never from Goodreads! :D

    1. I've entered those Goodreads giveways for years and never won a book from them and then this year, out of the blue, I won two in a row. How strange is that? :D

  13. Bwahahahaha! Those spam comments are priceless. What does #2 even mean??

That bag is super cute. I've seen lots of fun stuff from Out of Print, but I've never actually ordered anything from them. I might have to this year.

  14. I was scrolling through your posts looking for your review of The Retreat and realized I missed this one. Yay for winning All the Best Lies! I can't wait to read it! You also reminded me that I want to watch a Peanuts story. Having seen one in so many years and I'm feeling nostalgic tonight. :)
