I love the bookish art you post, but I just realized that even back then it must have been considered somewhat out of the ordinary to see a man actually sitting down and reading a book. We are just too few in number...or still foolishly concerned about the "image" it may portray of our maleness.
I did often see men at burger places reading while they ate alone, but since COVID-19, I haven't had that experience, so maybe I'm exaggerating some.
I made a quick search yesterday, but I didn't come up with any paintings, just lots of photos of men reading and women saying how "sexy" that was to them. That last bit surprised me, I have to admit.

You've made me curious how many paintings there are of men reading; I haven't seen very many. But then I haven't really looked.
