Top Ten Tuesday is a fun weekly meme hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl.
This week's theme was a Halloween Freebie.
So, I decided to go with ten of my favorite scary/fun movies.
These first five aren't gory or graphic; they are quietly suspenseful in the best possible way, and will keep you on the edge of your seat... but they won't give you nightmares.
The Uninvited |
The Watcher in the Woods (The 1980 version with Bette Davis.) |
The Others |
House on Haunted Hill (Because I love Vincent Price.) |
A Quiet Place |
Then there are these five movies....they'll still make you jump in your seat at times, but they'll also make you laugh out loud. These are the funny/scary movies I love:
Goosebumps |
DeadTectives |
Love and Monsters |
Happy Death Day |
The Ghost Breakers |
Honorable Mention:
Buffy the Vampire Slayer Halloween Episode Season 2, Episode 6.
Happy Viewing!
The Others was a great one! And Nicole Kidman's acting was awesome.
ReplyDeleteI love The Others! Such a great twist in that one. :)
DeleteNever heard of Deadtectives, but I'm off to see if I can find it on Netflix!
ReplyDeleteFingers crossed, because it's really funny, as long as you don't mind a little language.
DeleteThose top 5 movies are ones I'd like to see; thanks for reminding us about them.
ReplyDeleteThey're all great movies. And perfect viewing for this time of year.
DeleteGood list. I had done one before a couple of years ago, so my TTT presents books with food on their cover.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see your TTT post. :)
DeleteGreat topic, I loved watching The Quiet Place , it had me biting my nails in so many places
ReplyDeleteYes! A Quiet Place is very suspenseful and good.
DeleteMy mouth dropped when I saw you included Watcher in the Woods because I was just watching that now two weeks ago! I remember seeing it in the theater as a kid and came across the full length movie on YouTube. What a blast from the past!
ReplyDeleteThere's something about Watcher in the Woods that I love. I think it's that quiet suspense. :)
DeleteMy sister introduced us to Quiet Place recently. Scary!
ReplyDeleteTalk about the definition of quiet suspense! That one kept me on the edge of my seat.
DeleteI finally watched Goosebumps this year and it was a good one!
ReplyDeleteLauren @ www.shootingstarsmag.net
That one always makes me laugh. :D
DeleteNice list! Watcher in the Woods is SO underrated!
ReplyDeleteRight? And it's so suspenseful and fun. I love that movie! :)
DeleteBob Hope in Ghost Breakers! why does that remind me of something? (lol)
ReplyDelete:D I only recently viewed Ghost Breakers, but it's now my favorite Bob Hope movie.
DeleteI was recently looking up some old movies on YouTube, and came across several Vincent Price ones -- have to say, I have come to love him too. :) And I'm going to look up DeadTectives, just for that laugh-fabulous (laffabulous?) title.
ReplyDeleteThere were so many things in DeadTectives that totally made me laugh. :D
DeleteCan't believe that of all of these, I've only seen the Vincent Price movie. That guy used to scare the bejesus out of me when I was a kid.
ReplyDeleteI love Vincent Price. I think it's his voice! And if you like Ray Milland, he's in The Uninvited, which is a great movie based off of a Dorothy Macardle ghost story.
DeleteI haven't watched any of these! I would stay away from the scarier ones, although I like that they have humor ;)
ReplyDeleteNone of these are super scary. They're more suspenseful than really scary.
DeleteVincent Price can do creepy/scary like nobody else! Great list.
ReplyDeleteDon't you just love him? He's the best!
DeleteFun post this week!!
ReplyDeleteThank you! :)
DeleteWell, now I know what to look for for my Halloween television viewing!
ReplyDeleteThere are so many Halloween-type movies out there to choose from, but these are some of my favorites. :)
DeleteWe binge watched Buffy about 10 years ago after watching it only occasionally when it first came out in the er... 90s? Loved it. Anthony Head. Yum.
ReplyDeleteI love Buffy! And Anthony Stewart Head is awesome. :)
DeleteWatcher in the Woods gave me nightmares BIG TIME when I was a kid.! I could probably handle it now...maybe. I also love The Others and A Quiet Place (although the sequel was a disappointment).
ReplyDeleteHappy TTT!
I love Watcher in the Woods. It's so great. I haven't seen the sequel to A Quiet Place...but maybe I don't want to if it was disappointing.
DeleteI love suspense and don't need all the goriness. The Uninvited looks so good- i love vintage movie posters like that!
ReplyDeleteThe Uninvited surprised me by how good it was. I really like that one. :)
DeleteI'm a big chicken so the only one I've seen from your list is the Goosebumps one, haha.
ReplyDeleteI love Goosebumps! It's that best combination of a little scary and a lot funny. :D
DeleteI haven't seen any of these! I'm glad you said whether they were gory or not--I don't do well with gore.
ReplyDeleteI don't like gore either!
DeleteThe Others (creeped me out!) and A Quiet Place! Love that you included funny horror flicks, too. One of my favorite spooky movies is What Lies Beneath with Harrison Ford and Michelle Pfeiffer. I still watch it from time to time.
ReplyDeleteOoh...What Lies Beneath is a good scary one. I'd forgotten about that one!
DeleteOoh, fun list! The Quiet Place is terrifying. And yay for including Buffy!!
ReplyDeleteBuffy is the best! :D
DeleteI've only see 'The Others' and it wasn't that scary but I sort of didn't like. I haven't seen the others but 'DeadTectives' seems like fun.
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely day.
I thought DeadTectives was very funny.
DeleteThese all look so creepy!
ReplyDeleteThey're not too creepy.
DeleteFun! I've been trying to find a scary, but not too scary, movie to watch this year. I'll have to try to find a couple of these. :)
ReplyDeleteNone of these are too scary, but they are suspenseful and fun.
DeleteA great list!

DeleteWatcher in the Woods and Ghostbreakers. Haven't seen those in years. Thanks, Lark!
ReplyDeleteThanks for commenting! :)
DeleteMy favorite Halloween movie is Arsenic and Old Lace with Cary Grant. Sort of scary and a lot of fun.
ReplyDeleteI love Cary Grant! Any movie with him in it is a good movie. :)
DeleteThanks for the list! I need to find some good movies to watch in the next few days. I love creepy stuff!
ReplyDeleteIt's a good time of year to watch some scary movies, that's for sure. :)
DeleteA Quiet Place was good. I did love Buffy.
ReplyDeleteBuffy was such a fun series! I miss it.
DeleteWe're still deciding which movie to watch tonight or tomorrow for Halloween! I thought The Others was excellent. Great list for TTT!
ReplyDeleteI really like The Others, too. Such a good twist at the end the first time you see it. :)
