It was actually hard to narrow this end-of-year list down to just twelve books. I could easily have done a list of twenty favorites, or more. I read a lot of good books this year, which means that several books I really liked did not make it onto this list. So, in no particular order, here are the books that did (with links to my original reviews):
Honorable Mention: A Long Walk to Water by Linda Sue Park
(Which I got to read with a fun group of 4th graders who loved it, too.)
Happy Reading!
I haven't read ANY of your favorite books on 2021 but, Girl With the Louding Voice is on my list. I hope to work on my favorite's list this week.
ReplyDeleteGirl With the Louding Voice is definitely a book worth reading. Can't wait to check out your favorites list! :D
DeleteThe Girl With the Louding Voice was definitely a great read and I'm glad we read this together! I've been meaning to read The Final Girl Support Group so perhaps next year. I still haven't work on my favourite list yet but it's good to read about other blogger friends' favourite list. More books to explore and add on! Happy holidays! :)
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to seeing your favorites list, because you always pick books that I end up wanting to read, too. :)
DeleteI loved Girl with the Louding Voice, too! I talked my book club into reading it last summer.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great book to read with your book club! There's so much to discuss in it, and it's such a great read. :)
DeleteSix wakes was good- so thought provoking!
ReplyDeleteIt really was! Such a great science fiction/mystery. :)
DeleteThere's definitely been some that looked fun to me on this list, but I haven't read any...yet!
ReplyDeleteThat's what next year is for. ;D
DeleteThose are all new to me. I hope you had a nice Christmas.
ReplyDeleteThat's an interesting list! I haven't read any of those, so you've given me some ideas for next year's reading :)
ReplyDeleteWell, I think all 12 books on this list are great reads, so I hope you find one or two that work for you. :)
DeleteNice list of books! I haven't read any of them, but The Girl With the Louding Voice by Abi Dare sounds interesting!
ReplyDeleteI loved that one! Adunni's life in Nigeria was completely captivating.

ReplyDeleteAn interesting list, none of which I can claim to have read.
ReplyDeleteI seem to say that a lot on your blog! You're always reviewing books I find myself adding to my TBR list. :)
DeleteI almost picked up The Girl With the Louding Voice to read yesterday but decided I didn't want to risk having to change my top 10 (okay, it's top 15) list which I plan to post later this week. Sadly, the book I did end up reading (and finishing this afternoon because I couldn't stop reading) did just that anyway. LOL Oh well. I will definitely be reading Abi Dare's book this next year. I haven't read any of the books on your list, but I do want to read some of the others too. The Last Bookshop in London is on my TBR pile.
ReplyDeleteThe Girl With the Louding Voice is definitely worth reading. And I loved the bookshop and the WWII setting in The Last Bookshop in London. Both books are really good. :)
DeleteYay for A Dark Lure and The Right Sort of Man! I enjoyed both. The Final Girl Support Group was a crazy fun ride, too! I'll be getting my lists up Tuesday and Wednesday. I think. Hope you had a lovely holiday, Lark! :)
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see your favorites list! I'm sure I'll be adding several books from it onto my own TBR list. :D
DeleteSix Wakes is such a fun read. I regret not reading the Grady Hendrix yet!
ReplyDeleteWasn't Six Wakes great? And I think you'd really like The Final Girl Support Group. :)
DeleteYour list is a good varieties. I haven't read any of them but I am a little interested in six wakes, as I would like to read more science fiction.
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely holiday.
Six Wakes is a very fun combination of science fiction and mystery, and I really liked it. :)
DeleteI loved Deception Cove too. I'm currently struggling to choose just 5 of my favorites this year.
ReplyDeleteOnly five? That's tough! I couldn't even limit my list to just ten! ;D Good luck.
DeleteI haven't read any of your favorite books. The Last Bookshop in London sure looks good to me.
ReplyDeleteIt's a very heartwarming and charming read, and I think you'd like it. :)
DeleteI've read and enjoyed two (Deception Cove and The Right Sort of Man), and I have two others near the top of my Read Me Now pile: The Last Bookshop in London and The Future Is Yours. I'm looking forward to reading them. :-)
ReplyDeleteI need to read the sequels to both Deception Cove and The Right Sort of Man. And I'd love to know what you think of The Future is Yours! :)
DeleteThank you for sharing. Some of these look interesting.
ReplyDelete:D I enjoyed reading them.
DeleteThanks Lark for listing your top 12 books for 2021 and I see a number of books I like, particularly Stranger Times and The Last Bookshop in London. I will commit to these two next year and will look forward to rereading your reviews about them.
ReplyDeleteHappy reading, Kathy! I loved both of those books, and I hope you do, too. :)
DeleteQuite a few of these are on my TBR list. I'm very interested in reading that Regina Scott book and The Stranger Times. And I had a hard time narrowing down my list too. I think I ended up with fifteen, lol. There were just too many good books this year. :D
ReplyDeleteYou would really like the Regina Scott novel! It's such a fun read. And The Stranger Times made me laugh. Can't wait to check out your favorites list. :)
DeleteHmmm, The Right Sort of Man is the only one of these I read (and I liked but did not love) but I loved Owen Laukkanen's series set in MN and even drove an hour to meet him a couple of years ago. I think I own this one but have not yet read it so will move higher in the TBR. Happy 2022!
ReplyDeleteI've read a few books by Laukkanen, and Deception Cove is definitely my favorite! Such a good read. :)
DeleteNothing Short of Wondrous sounds excellent. And of course, I remember you reccing Big Finish before, so want to read that too. Hope you've been doing well, Lark, and a very happy 2022 to you. :)
ReplyDelete~Lex
Happy Holidays, Lex! I hope you have a very Happy New Year.
DeleteGirl With the Louding Voice is such a good book. Why didn't I add it to my list? So many good book, such a short list! My 2021 Favorites
ReplyDeleteIt's hard to limit a favorite books list to just 12! I could easily have added at least ten books, or more. :)
DeleteI have got to get a copy of The Last Bookshop in London! Just my speed.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year!
Can't believe I haven't read any of these...I'll look at them for some early 2022 ideas.
ReplyDeleteI think you'd like Deception Cove for sure. And maybe some of the others. :)
DeleteRegina Scott is one of the authors I have on my radar but haven't gotten to yet :) Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteI think you'd really like her books. I loved both A Distance Too Grand and Nothing Short of Wondrous. :D
DeleteSo far I've only read Girl with the Louding Voice and The Big Finish from your list, but I loved both of them.
ReplyDeleteThey're great reads, aren't they? I loved the characters in both of them. :)
DeleteI'm so glad you recommended the Scott series on your blog this year. I've been enjoying it SO much! I can't wait to read the third book in 2022.
ReplyDeleteThey're fun books, aren't they? I'm looking forward to reading the third one, too. My library copy of it should come in soon. :)
DeleteNice list. I really want to read The Girl with the Louding Voice ... I have put it back on my TBR ... thanks. Happy reading in 2022
ReplyDeleteIt's so good. I think you'll really like it. :)
DeleteI love seeing favorites list! I have not read any of these but I do remember adding some of these to my wishlist and no doubt I added them after I read your reviews! Here's hoping there are even more wonderful books ahead for you in 2022!
ReplyDeleteThank you! I wish for you the same thing in 2o22. :)
