The beginning of a new year always makes me stop and evaluate my life and think about what changes I'd like to make, or what I'd like to accomplish in the future. But rather than setting a specific resolution or goal this year, I decided to choose a word to focus on instead. One word to center my year around.
There were several words on my shortlist: Dare. Become. Rise. Change. Seek.
But the one word that resonated the most with me was this one: Embrace
Embrace faith.
Embrace change.
Embrace positivity.
Embrace joy.
Embrace fear.
Embrace hard work.
Embrace gratitude.
Embrace failure.
Embrace life.
Embrace hope.
Embrace love.
Embrace myself.
I really like the idea of embracing a different quality each month. Though it's not so much about setting a goal as it is about having a change in perspective and attitude. And I think that's what I need in my life right now. What about you? What goals or intentions are you setting for yourself in 2023? Are you picking a new word for the new year, too? I'd love to know.
Happy New Year!
Happy New Year, Lark! I think your choice of a word to focus on is a great one. I don't have any new year resolution so I'll just let nature take its course. ;)
ReplyDeleteSometimes that's the best way to do it! Happy New Year, Melody. :D
DeleteNo goals or intentions for me though I do try not to fret about the bad things. Embrace is a good word, good idea.
ReplyDeleteI hope you have a lovely new year.
Thank you, Lissa. I'm still working on not fretting or worrying about things, too. Happy New Year! :D
DeleteI feel like I want to make more of 2023 than I did 2022. It felt a bit static and I think it might be a hangover from lockdown. I need to get over that and get out there! Happy New Year, Lark!
ReplyDeleteI want to make more of 2023, too. I feel like I've been stuck for several years now. And I want to try and consciously change that this year. I wish you luck and joy in 2023! :D
DeleteEmbrace is a great word for the new year and any year and I came up with the word Explore: explore health, explore walking, explore change. Even fear we have to dig deep to explore why we are afraid and try to do something about it to see if we can change things for the better or have some peace.
ReplyDeleteAnd Have a Very Happy New Year, Lark!
DeleteI love the word Explore! What a good choice. Happy exploring in 2023! :D
DeleteI love your word. Happy New Year!

ReplyDeleteThank you! Same to you. :D
DeleteLark, I love this post! Happy New Year and I think that 'Embrace' is a great word. I've decided to be on a quest for 'JOY' in my life. I have gotten out of the habit of looking for that quality and I need to seek it out and also share it again.
ReplyDeleteJoy is such a good choice for any year! I hope 2023 brings you lots of it. :D
DeleteHappy New Year and what a wonderful word choice!
ReplyDeleteThank you. Happy New Year to you and your family! :D
DeleteHappy New Year! I think embrace is a great word to focus on this year - it encompasses so many different things.
ReplyDeleteThat's what I liked about it...and what I need in my life this year. Happy New Year, Helen! :D

ReplyDeleteThank you! Focusing on more positive things in life is something I really need to work on, especially after the last few hard years we've had. But I hope 2023 will be better.
DeleteI wish you a very happy New year, or as we say in Dutch: Gelukkig nieuwjaar!! I think the idea of embracing something each month sounds very good and interesting. So all the best for 2023!
ReplyDeleteKind regards,
Thank you, Bettina! I hope 2023 brings you all the best, too. :D

ReplyDeleteThrive is a great word! I love it. :D
DeleteHappy New Year, Lark! I don't really do much with resolutions but I love the idea of focusing on one word and I think you chose a great one.
ReplyDeleteThanks. I'm excited to have it as my focus this year. :D
DeleteHappy New Year, Lark! I love seeing the words that people choose and think that's so cool. You chose a great one and thank you for sharing the why. I haven't done that before but what I'm trying out this year is choosing a couple affirmations to help me stay focused. Wishing you a wonderful year!
ReplyDeleteAffirmations can be so powerful. I need to do a better job of thinking positive thoughts this year. Hope 2023 treats you well, Iliana! :D
DeleteI hope your NYE was a wonderful one, Lark and here's to a wonderful 2023! I love your focus word for this year -- it's such a wonderful way to begin the year and to well, embrace change over the next 12 mths.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Verushka. I needed a postitive word to focus on this year, but one that'll push me a bit, too. Hopefully that's what Embracing 2023 will do. Happy New Year! :D
DeleteEmbrace is a great word for the year. I hope we can all do that.
ReplyDeleteI hope 2023 is a happy year for all of us...and a good one, too.
DeleteSame here. All the best.
DeleteI really love the idea of focussing on one word to center yourself through the new year. Embrace really gives you the option to go in many different directions! I've learned to live by a mantra of being happy but not satisfied. For too long I equated happiness with achieving some kind of goal. If I didn't meet it I wasn't happy. I've learned that it is okay to be happy with where you are in life while still striving for something more or different. I guess you could say I'm embracing that happiness this year haha.
ReplyDeleteHappy but not satisified...I like that! It goes along with the idea of Enjoying the Journey. :D
DeleteHappy 2023! I hope you have a great reading year!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much! :D
DeleteEmbrace is such a good word for you, especially after reading all your reasons for choosing it. I think it's perfect. I don't have a word, but if I did, I think it would be "listen". I don't mean in the sense of my work (for which it's a requirement) or being the ear people turn to because I'm easy to talk to, but in a deeper sense. I fall too easily in as a fixer and I need to step back from that and just be a listener when that's what is called for. I need to listen more carefully to myself--my body and my mental health. I want to listen more to nature around me, to music that sooths my soul, and listen to the positive more than the negative. Not that I've given it much thought or anything. I hope you have a Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteI like that word...especially the idea of listening more to yourself and your needs...but also listening to more music that brings joy to your soul. Sounds like you might have a word for 2023 after all. :D
DeleteI saw this post earlier and was thinking about it today so had to come back and comment. Embrace is a lovely word and your interpretation of it is especially nice. I will try to remember that when I am falling into a downer mood.
ReplyDeleteAnd on another note... How is your weather now?
We had some rain today which helped melt some of the mountains of snow that fell over the weekend, and it's been a little warmer, so that helps, too. And my power hasn't gone out once all week. Yay! :D
