"And Haven? Well, that's the most important part. Haven's Rock is a sanctuary for those in need. It's a place to hide when the law isn't enough to protect you from persecution for your beliefs or lifestyle, or from a stalker or abusive partner. Rockton was supposed to be that, and it was for some, but for the owners, it was a purely financial investment. This will be different. This time, we're in charge."
This is the first book in a new series; it's also a continuation of Casey Butler's and Eric Dalton's story from Armstrong's Rockton series. And I was so happy and excited to read it because I love Casey and Eric! (Their Newfoundland dog, Storm, is pretty great, too.) They're setting up their new, very secret town, deep in the Yukon wilderness when they're called in to find two missing persons. Their search quickly turns into a murder investigation. And life at Haven's Rock starts to feel eerily similar to the one they left behind in Rockton.
Armstrong has written another engrossing and entertaining mystery. I loved every page of it. (That Yukon setting is a favorite, too.) Wherever Casey and Eric go, I'm happy to follow. This is a definite 5-star read! And I'm excited to find out what happens next in Haven's Rock. (So I hope Kelley Armstrong writes fast.)
Happy Reading!
I was fairly certain that you would enjoy this one, Lark! I'm ready for Haven's Rock #2 - LOL.
ReplyDelete:D Me, too! How fast do you think she can get it written?
DeleteI've never read Armstrong but it sounds like I should make her acquaintance.
ReplyDeleteI really like her Rockton series! They're great mystery/suspense novels with two very awesome main characters.
DeleteI have the first book in the Rockton series on my TBR and this is an author I'm really looking forward to reading.
ReplyDeleteI hope you get a chance to check her out soon. I really like her Rockton series.
DeleteThere was a lot packed into that title! As you know I loved this one so I'm thrilled you did too, Lark! I'm (as usual) eager for the next one! :)
ReplyDeleteThese books are all so great! I love Eric and Casey. If only the next one would come out this summer instead of sometime next year (if we're lucky!).
DeleteI have a few of her books on my Kindle, but haven't gotten around to reading them. This one sounds great.
DeleteI loved it! :D
DeleteGreat review, Lark! I love the cover.
ReplyDeleteIt's a good one.
DeleteHi Lark, I did read up to about 80 pages of City of the Lost and Kelley Armstrong is such a talented writer. I didn't finish the novel though because I felt bad for Casey and what she has been through and Casey's friend as well and would Rockton turn out to be a good place or another dangerous turn of events. But very suprised that Casey and Eric are a couple when you consider their first encounter where he barely gave her his first name. And maybe Haven's Rock will turn out to be a sanctuary where people can truly feel safe.
ReplyDeleteCasey does have a tough background, and hard things happen to her while she's at Rockton, but lots of good things happen to her, too. And Eric turns out to be one of them. :D
DeleteI have the first Rockton book, but still need to read it. You have me really excited for this spinoff series though! I need to get caught up. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm so excited Armstrong decided to write this spinoff series! I can't wait to see where she takes it next. :D
DeleteI'm so glad this was good. I need to finish the last two Rockton's so I can dive into this. I'm hoping some characters make the transition too. I liked Tye and the one woman- was that her cousin or am I thinking of Jenny? I suppose I need to get back to those!
ReplyDeleteThere are several characters who are going to join Casey and Eric in this new town...which I'm glad about.
DeleteOh this does sound like it would be a good read.
ReplyDeleteIt really is!
DeleteI will read this book once I get through all the other books in the first series. This is what I get for falling behind.
ReplyDeleteHappens to me a lot! But at least you have lots of good books to look forward to reading. :D
DeleteI need to read a book by Kelley Armstrong soon.
ReplyDeleteIt's a great series! I've enjoyed all the books in it.
DeleteI like reading mysteries set in unusual places like the Yukon. Nice review.
ReplyDeleteI do, too!
DeleteThe Yukon! That ought to be fun--and exotic.
ReplyDeleteIt's a great isolated wilderness setting, which I always love.
DeleteThat's the bad part about a new series right? Waiting for the sequel! Sounds like you'll have some great reading ahead!
ReplyDeleteThat is always the hardest part...waiting for the next book to come out.
DeleteI still haven’t finished with the Rockton series yet, LOL. Glad that there's a new series and it's as good as the Rockton series.
ReplyDeleteIt really is! While I wait for the next one to come out I'm tempted to go back and reread all the Rockton books.
DeleteI was so excited to read this book. I just love this group of characters.
ReplyDeleteThe characters are definitely what keep me coming back book after book! :D
