Amigurumi animals...

So, I checked Funny Amigurumi by Emilie Penou out of the library last month because I wanted to try crocheting some of these cute animals. I managed to make two of them before I had to return the book to the library. They're not perfect by any means, but I think they turned out pretty well, especially considering it was my first attempt at crocheting either a bunny or an owl. (Although I never did figure out how to make the owl's feet.)

These two amigurumi guys turned out to be a fun summer project.
Next up? Either watercoloring or pottery. Stay tuned.

  1. They're adorable! I've been curious about crocheting but I know I'll never do it right, lol.

    1. You never know...single crochet is pretty easy to learn, and that's the basic stitch for these kinds of animals.

  2. How cute! I can't crochet but I think it is a lovely art/craft. I have several pieces that my late aunt, who was a wonderful crocheter, completed. I treasure them.

    1. I wish I was good at crocheting hats and scarves and sweaters, but I'm not. I can only figure out the simpler patterns. ;D

  3. They turned out very well and since this was your first time crocheting I think you should continue crocheting because you have a talent for it.

    1. I have a half-finished afghan that I started crocheting years (and years!) ago that I'd really like to pull out and finish next.

  4. Yay! I am glad you posted them. They are super cute! I think the problem with some of the patterns is they start the magic circle too small and you end up with the cone shape on the top of the head (that happened to me with my lion). I haven't had time to crochet recently, I miss it!

    1. Yeah, why do they start off with such small magic circles sometimes? The owl was like 4 stitches...and that did make his head a bit poky on top.

  5. I can crochet, but it's been a long time and never anything this advanced. These look wonderful, Lark! I'd like to take an oil painting or watercolor class someday. Pottery too. Can't wait to see what you come up with! :)

  10. Oh, those look so cute. My mom could crochet--I have a fun rabbit she made--but it's a skill that didn't make it on to me. Alas.

    1. My mom crocheted me a pink pig when I was five; it had flowers on its back and I loved it. My dad was very talented when it came to both crocheting and knitting. They taught me, but I've never really been super good at either.

    1. I've followed Jenni Elyse's blog, but I didn't know she made amigurumi animals. Hers are probably much more professional looking than mine. ;D

    1. Crocheting is fun. And not really very hard once you learn the basic stitches.

  13. Those are so cute! I've tried to crochet more than once, but my fingers refuse to cooperate. Go figure...

    2. I struggled with the whole small circle crocheting part of it...which is why I only managed to make two of them. And you are definitely NOT anonymous! ;D

    1. This pattern isn't super hard, it's mostly just single crochet.

    1. I have to go slow when I do anything like this, and if I drop a stitch or mess up, I have no idea how to go back and fix it. But despite that, these turned out pretty good.
