Randomness....

Recently finished reading:  The Wishing Game by Meg Shaffer.  And I loved it--Lucy, Hugo, Jack and Christopher, Clock Island, and the contest! It was magical.

"Only brave children get their wishes....Because only brave children know that wishing is never enough. You have to try to make your own wishes come true." --Meg Shaffer

This John Atkinson cartoon totally made me laugh. Check out his website, Wrong Hands, for more clever and humorous art. It'll make your day!

My latest library haul...I know, once again I checked out too many books, and five more holds will probably come in tomorrow, but it's my bookish addiction, and there's no 12-step program for it:

Murder at King's Crossing by Andrea Penrose
Cat's Paw by Roger Scarlett
The Next Everest by Jim Davidson
Love You a Latke by Amanda Elliot
The Hunter's Daughter by Nicola Solvinic
The Whistling Season by Ivan Doig
 Snowed In by Catherine Walsh
The Novice by Taran Matheru
Miles Bailey Gets Down on One Knee by Jen Atkinson
Chicken Dinner News by Jeff Billington
Gathering Mist by Margaret Mizushima

And my list of glad things from October:
  • I saw chickadees on my walk this morning...they're my favorite little bird and always make me smile.
  • Tracker has started again! It's so good...one of my favorite TV shows this season.
  • I'm also really loving Jelly Roll's new album, especially his song I'm Not Okay.
  • I found some favorite books on sale at my library's used book sale...picked up 5 of them for only 50 cents. Any day with new books in it is a good day!
  • My family got together for a fun game night last weekend; we played Zombie Run (a fast, easy and fun card game) and Mycelia.
  • And my football team won their last 3 games! They are now 8-0. Go BYU!

  1. Lark, what a haul :) Loved that cartoon - LOL! And, yes to Tracker! I love that show. I loved seeing him and his brother work together on that alien episode. Oh, and I keep hoping he'll ask his sister about that box of their father's things. I'm excited for this new season. Wishing you a lovely weekend!

    1. Thanks, Nadia! I'm glad Colter's brother is showing up more on Tracker; I'm a big Jensen Ackles fan. And I'm very curious as to what is in that box of their father's stuff. I hope you have a good weekend, too. :D

  2. That's an interesting list of books that you've checked out from the library. I fully admit that I've never heard of a single one of them! I totally agree with you about chickadees - they are the cutest little birds. Carolina Chickadees and Tufted Titmice are constant visitors to our yard and feeders, usually in unison, and I do enjoy watching them.

    1. Chickadees always make me smile. And I hope all of these library books end up being good reads; all but three of the authors are new to me. So, I'm crossing my fingers. :D

  4. I hope we'll get to hear about your book sale haul as well!

I also have too many books checked out from the library - too many to read before I have to give them back. But I just can't resist putting intriguing titles on hold.

    1. That's my problem, too. I put books on hold on whims without counting them up, and then they all come in at once! ;D

  5. Back when I was going to the library I would check out 35 books every two weeks. lol

    1. :D And probably get them all read, too, huh? That's awesome.

  6. Any day with new books in it is a good day! Oh, yeah! I'm trying to make more of them come from the library, not always successfully...

    1. I don't know what I would do without my library. That's where the majority of my books come from.

  7. Love your random posts! I have The Next Everest on my radar. Be interested to hear about that if you get to it. And yay for a library book sale!

  10. I'm so glad to see your thoughts on The Wishing Game! I'm hoping to read it before the end of the year -- I read the author's more recent novel, The Lost Story, a couple of months ago, and loved it. What an awesome library haul! I'm waiting for my library hold on Love You a Latke to come in. :)

  11. You have some great reading ahead of you! And, there is really no such thing as checking out too many books! No 12-step program needed. The worst that can happen is it goes back to the library unread and you have to get it again at some point...oh wait, that's not bad either because the book keeps getting checked out, keeping it in the system...I see no problem here, LOL! Also, I love the meme.

    1. I've been needing a lot of comfort reads lately to help me cope with my stress and anxiety, so having lots of books around makes me feel better. ;D And you're right, there's no fine for returning library books unread. And I can always renew them, too. And checking books out does keep them in the system longer. All good things in my book.

  12. I've been searching for something good to watch so happy to hear about a series you love! I also want to check out that card game. I play cards with my grandkids a bunch. Love spotting birds! I've been seeing Western Bluebirds (so pretty!) and Northern Flickers around lately. Hope you enjoy all your library lends!

    1. I've had a Northern Flicker around my backyard lately, too. I love their plaintive call. And Zombie Run would be a good game to play with your grandkids. It's simple and easy to learn, but lots of fun. :D

  14. That's a good library haul ... do you get 2 or 3 weeks for checkouts? Will see if you like the Ivan Doig novel. Enjoy.

    1. We get 3 weeks for checkouts, and if the book isn't on hold for anyone else, we can renew the book up to 3 times for three more weeks each time. So I tend to read the books I can't renew first. And I think I'll like the Doig novel; I really like westerns, and Jane @ Reading, Writing, Working, Playing highly recommended it. :D

  17. Love the cartoon! And I just put The Wishing Game on my to-read list. That's a nice library haul, by the way -- both the borrowed books, and the booksale books. Have a great week, and I hope November ends with at least as many "glad things."

  21. The Wishing Game is on my TBR so I'm glad to see you enjoyed it and the cartoon had me laughing. The horror! Great library haul. Most of the authors are new to me but Margaret Mizushima is on my TBR and I've picked up a few of her books though haven't read of them. Chickadees are my favorite birds too! They're such cheerful looking little guys. I live in SEC land and an a born and bred Auburn fan so we are NOT talking about football around here!

    1. BYU had a very bad football year last year, so I completely understand you not wanting to talk about it this year. And I'm sorry. That's never fun when your team isn't doing well. And I think you would really like this Margaret Mizushima series! The characters are so great. It's one best read in order. :D

  22. Great post! I love library sales!! My husband and I use to live in the small coastal town of Carpinteria, California, which is sandwiched between Ventura and Santa Barbara. They had the BEST FOL Used Bookstore stocked to the gills with great books and low prices. I wish we still lived in Carpinteria for so many reasons. I miss the small beach town vibe!
