A Bookish Beauty . . .

Jean-Honore Fragonard -- A Young Girl Reading, 1776

"And now I will unclasp a secret book,
And to your quick-conceiving discontents
I'll read you matter deep and dangerous..."
-Wm. Shakespeare

  1. Love the painting and the quote. Fragonard was considered edgy in his day and today his work is perceived by many as trite, even schmaltzy. However you perceive him, there is no arguing that he could lay down some delicious strokes which, much like Shakespeare's words, have survived. Isn't that what any artist or writer desires?
