Here's what I loved about it:
- August Shroeder, the lonely high school science teacher who's headed to Yellowstone National Park with his dog, Woody, in order to sprinkle some of his son's ashes there.
- Seth and Henry, the two young boys who end up traveling with August while their Dad spends ninety days in jail. (Especially Henry.)
- The fact that on their way to Yellowstone they also visit Zions and Bryce Canyon...two national parks that I love because they're right here in Utah and they're amazing!
- The poignant relationship that develops between August and the two boys over the course of the summer and where it eventually leads these three unique and extremely likeable characters.
Happy Reading!
My mom was always great at picking books for each of her kid's personality type.
ReplyDeleteThat's so awesome; I wish every kid had a mom like that.
DeleteMother / daughter book sharing is the best!
ReplyDelete:) I think so, too.
DeleteHaha! It's so nice to share books with your mom. Mine gave me a few to try lately and I introduced her to Flavia de Luce and Jackson Brodie, since she loves mysteries.
ReplyDeleteWell, who wouldn't love Flavia de Luce? Nice that you and your mom can connect over books, too.
DeleteMy mom is a reader too, although admittedly our tastes aren't always in line with each other's. :-) I have read two books by Catherine Ryan Hyde and enjoyed both immensely. This sounds very good as well. She writes such great characters.
ReplyDeleteShe does write really good characters! Which other of her books have you read?
