The Orphan Program was a secret government agency that took orphans and trained them to be covert operatives and assassins. Evan Smoak was 12 when he became Orphan X. He went on his first mission at 19. Ten years later, he managed to escape from the program and disappear. Now he's the Nowhere Man, a well-trained weapon and rumored protector of the innocent and desperate. He lives by the rules he was taught as Orphan X: one mission at a time, always play offense, master your surroundings, never make it personal, and most important of all, never let an innocent die. But his current case is testing all those rules...and all his survival skills, too. Because the bad guys aren't just gunning for his client. They're gunning for him.
I loved this book! Evan Smoak is like a combination of Jack Reacher, Gabriel Allon, and Jason Bourne, three of my all-time favorite tough guys. He's great. And so smart. I loved watching him outwit his enemies. But my favorite moments were his interactions with the 8-year-old boy who lives downstairs. This book is jam-packed with action and suspense. And it's so well-written. I could not put it down. And I was sad when it ended. I can't wait to read the next book in this series.
Happy Reading!
Wow, sounds like this was a great read. So glad you enjoyed it.
ReplyDeleteIt was one I just couldn't put down. :)
DeleteSounds like a good one! Will look out for it. :)
ReplyDeleteI really liked this one! Evan Smoak is such a great character. :)
DeleteYour libraries are still open? Lucky! Mine are all closed and one of them is holding a book for me that I really, REALLY want to read. It's torture!
ReplyDeleteOur libraries are closed. Have been for a full week now. I just wrote this post before it happened and forgot to rewrite that part. I did manage to check out a few books before my library shut its doors, but not as many as I wanted to; and I have two holds sitting on the shelf waiting for me, but I can't get to them. They're being held hostage to the coronavirus. Not having access to the library and all its books is torture. I'm really hating it, too!
DeleteThis sounds like an exciting read! I'll have to add it to my wishlist. :)
ReplyDeleteI couldn't put it down. The things that happen to Evan aren't always that nice, but I couldn't help rooting for him.
DeleteThat sounds great. Glad to hear you enjoyed it.
ReplyDeleteThanks. :)
DeleteSounds like my kind of book, Lark! Perfect escape from all the craziness around!
ReplyDeleteI know I'm glad for any bookish escape right about now. :D
DeleteI hope the series keeps delivering for you!
ReplyDeleteSo far so good! I'm now in the middle of book two. :)
DeleteOoh this sounds good! And I love Jason Bourne. I've read one book by Hurwitz and enjoyed it, maybe I need to get this too. :)
ReplyDeleteYou know how I feel about it! :D
DeleteI have seen this series about, but have been reluctant to pick it up for some reason -- though if you ask me why, I probably won't be able to tell you. I'm just weird like that!
ReplyDeleteI'm a bit of a mood reader, so if I'm not in the mood for a certain kind of book, I won't pick it up to even give it a try. I just happened to be in the right mood for this one.
DeleteI love this series! It is fast paced and after reading the first one, I've been through each one! So glad you've found and enjoyed it. :)
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to read the other books! Evan Smoak is such a great character. :D
DeleteI could use a good thriller right now. Thanks for the review!
ReplyDeleteI really liked this one! :)
