A book by any other name...

libro          kitap          boek
vivlio          kirja
ksiazka        tohi          buch

Whatever the language it's written in, a good book is a good book.  I've been expanding my reading horizons lately, trying new authors and enjoying some refreshingly novel perspectives.  So, here's a list of 10 of my favorite foreign fiction reads:
  1. The Flanders Panel by Arturo Perez-Reverte (Spanish)
  2. My Name is Red by Orhan Pamuk (Turkish)
  3. The Angel's Game by Carlos Ruiz Zafon (Spanish)
  4. An Uncertain Place by Fred Vargas (French)
  5. The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson (Swedish)
  6. The Quiet Girl by Peter Hoeg (Danish)
  7. Kafka on the Shore by Haruki Murakami (Japanese)
  8. The Name of the Rose by Umberto Eco (Italian)
  9. The Darkest Room by Johan Theorin (Swedish)
  10. Codex 632 by Jose Rodrigues dos Santos (Portuguese)
There's my list.  What are your favorite foreign fiction novels?

  1. Two that I like are "Nectar in a Sieve" by Kamela Markandaya (India) and "In the Sea There Are Crocodiles" by Fabio Geda (Italy). Thanks for the list! I should branch out more.

  2. Not sure if I've read any that were published in another language first. Carlos Ruiz Zafon is on my to-read list though as is The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo series. As Amy just said, think I need to branch out more too.

    1. Zafon's book The Shadow of the Wind is really good, too. That's the first book of his that I ever read, and it made me a fan for life.
