Top Ten Tuesday

Top Ten Tuesday is a fun weekly meme hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl

This week's theme is a freebie! So I decided to give some review posts from 2013, my first year of blogging, a little extra love. Because not many people knew of or visited my blog back then. But I read a lot of really good books that year! Here are ten of my favorite books from 2013, with links to my original posts...check them out:

(Magic and mystery on Roanoke Island.)

(After ten years living in the woods with their drug-addicted mother, Carey and her little sister have just been brought back home. But can Carey adjust to normal life? This one's so good it made me cry.)

(An entertaining travel memoir to some of the most polluted places on earth.)

(Fun steampunk mystery with Mina Holmes and Evangeline Stoker.)

(Witty life lessons learned from reading Jane Austen's books.
I include my own 5 Jane Austen lessons in this post.)

(This is the book that made me a fan of Peter Hoeg for life.)

(Seven high school students trapped by a blizzard struggle to survive.)

(Four characters from Morocco trying to find a new life in Spain.)

(Fun mystery set in the 1920s involving a Vaudeville performer and a missing heiress.)

(Awesome ghost story and still my favorite St. James novel.)

Happy Reading!

    1. That is so true! I'd need at least two lifetimes to read them all, and having to choose between them can be really hard sometimes.

  2. I loved that book by Simone St. James, too! The other books look interesting too so have to check them out as well.

  3. I've read a couple of Gleason's Holmes & Stoker books and enjoyed them, including this one. :) My favorite Simone St. James is The Broken Girls! Several others look promising. Thanks, Lark.

  4. These all sound good but then again, you always make every book sound good. #4 looks interesting, I'm always trying to find that one steampunk book to enjoy - I actually read a few but they aren't good. The clockwork scarab sounds like a good book.

I like your list of Jane Austen life lessons - they are all good.

    Have a lovely day.

  11. Great idea for a blog post. My posts did not get a lot of love back then either, and I've often thought about deleting those first few years, but I think it's a better idea to promote them a bit.

  12. It's interesting to look back at what we wrote years ago, isn't it? I must confess that I haven't read any of those books that you reviewed back in 2013, but I'm going to take a look at them.

  16. Oh this is cool. I started around the same time and feel the same way! I reviewed some books but no one has read those posts lol. Not to mention I don't get to share those books I read then! Great idea. I really liked The Clockwork scarab and often think about going back and finishing those. There ended up being five I think??

    1. The Clockwork Scarab was a fun read...but if there are now five books in that series I am seriously behind! ;D And you should give some of your first blogging posts some more love. Plus, it's fun to look back at what we reviewed and posted back then.

    2. I have thought about re- posting some older stuff. In fact I have a few times :)

I think some of us bloggers who've been around a while should all post some older entries sometime :):)

  21. You read some interesting books in 2013, especially (to me) that travel book to nasty places. What a vacation! LOL Do you think your reading taste has changed much in the years since you starting blogging?

    1. Visit Sunny Chernobyl was great. It even made me think about going there someday. ;D And I think my reading tastes have changed a little over the years, but not too drastically. Because I still love mysteries, and books with a supernatural vibe. And I still love disaster/survival books, and good nonfiction. But I don't read as much YA as I once did. And I probably choose the books I review a little differently than I once did. It's fun to look back though and see what I was reading all those years ago.

  22. I read If You Find Me and remember being outraged for those little girls! Trapped sounds good. And I didn't know St.James had been writing so long, but I like the sound of An Inquiry into Love and Death.

    1. You'd probably like St. James's first book, The Haunting of Maddy Clare, too. They're both ghost/suspense/romance stories.
