I recently finished reading The Poet by Michael Connelly. This is the first book in Connelly's series that centers around Jack McEvoy, a news reporter who's beat is death. I could tell Connelly was writing from a lot of experience as someone who made a living writing for a newspaper for so many years because McEvoy felt very authentic. And I liked him. The case involving the supposed suicide of his brother was compelling, too. I look forward to reading the next Jack McEvoy book. (And the next Harry Bosch and Mickey Haller books, too.)
Here's my latest favorite cartoon from John Atkinson @ Wrong Hands.
Isn't this great?
It totally made me laugh.
So, I've never been a huge fan of pretzels, but I tried these Dot's Homestyle Pretzels the other day, and they are my new favorite snack! They're so yummy. And so addictive. I can't stop eating them. Which is bad. But they're just so good.
My latest library haul:
1. Deception Cove by Owen Laukkanen
2 Return to the Center of the Earth by Greig Beck
3. Fallen by Linda Castillo
4. Miss Pym Disposes by Josephine Tey
5. A Dark Lure by Loreth Anne White
6. You're So Dead by Ash Parsons
7. The Book Collectors by Delphine Minoui
8. On Basilisk Station by David Weber
The free book I just won from Goodreads:
(Doesn't it look like a fun holiday romance?)
And my latest fun bookish tee:
Have a great week...and Happy Reading!
There are so many really great mystery series out there right now. I haven't read Michael Connelly but I did read the first book in Linda Castillo's Kate Burkholder series and enjoyed it alot. Santa's Sweetheart reminded me of the Regency Christmas Romance series. 4 or 5 short stories by different Regency romance writers collected each year in one book that would be published around October. The stories were quite good and it definitely put me in the mood for Christmas.
ReplyDeleteI don't read a lot of short stories, but I do always enjoy when it's a collection of romance stories, especially with a Christmas theme! And Linda Castillo's Kate Burkholder books are so good. I hope you get a chance to read more of them.
DeleteI keep saying I want to try the Jack McAvoy series...and still haven't. The tee shirt is SO appropriate!
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed the first Jack McEvoy book. It's suspenseful and fun. And isn't that tee perfect? :)
DeleteElementary calculus...ha!
ReplyDeleteJohn Atkinson always makes me laugh. :D
DeleteI love that T-shirt! Describes me to a 'T'!
ReplyDeleteIsn't that the best bookish tee? I think it would fit a lot of us book bloggers. :)
DeleteI want that T-shirt! It's so me, lol! And that's so cool that you won Santa's Sweetheart on Goodreads. It does sound like a fun holiday read! :)
ReplyDeleteAs soon as I saw "Rearrange books" as the last thing on that tee I knew I had to have it! :D
DeleteI really enjoyed The Poet when I read it and am glad to see you liked it too! I got a good laugh out of that cartoon you shared. Thank you! I hope you enjoy your new books and have a great week!
ReplyDeleteThe Poet was a fun read! And I hope you have a great week, too. :)
DeleteLove that cartoon and the t-shirt. I've been a Connelly fan for many years and have read all the Bosch books plus the one you mention. I have to admit I've kind of gone off him recently but he is a very talented writer.
ReplyDeleteI only just started reading Connelly this year, so I have lots of books to catch up on. :)
DeleteI love that tee-shirt and although I've never seen that brand of pretzels, I am a fan of crunchy snacks.
ReplyDeleteCrunchy snacks with some salt! That's what I like. :)
DeleteI haven't read Connelly's McEvoy books yet, but I suspect that someone of his talent is never really going to disappoint me. The only one of his books I didn't much care for was the NF one he wrote about his newspaper days...found it very repetitive and boring, honestly.
ReplyDeleteLove the Oxymoron chart...had to read and think about each and every one of those. Very clever. Too...we love those pretzels here, too. A friend turned us on to them a few weeks ago.
The only of your new library books I'm familiar with is The Book Collectors. That one is particularly inspiring for book lovers, I think.
I'm surprised I've actually read a Connelly book that you haven't! But I think you'd like the McEvoy books, too. And I'm looking forward to reading The Book Collectors. :)
DeleteI love pretzels but I haven't heard of these. I'll have to look for them and try them out. You did well on your library haul.
ReplyDeleteLots of good books to read this time around...and those pretzels are so yummy! I hope you can find some to try. :)
DeleteOh, I liked Miss Pym Disposes--Josephine Tey is reliably good. The oxymorons also made me laugh--thanks for that!
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, Dot's Pretzels can be habit forming!
I sadly have never read any of Tey's books, but a lot of book bloggers sing her praises.
DeleteLOL re the "oxymoron library"!
ReplyDeleteIsn't that great? It made me laugh, too. :D
DeleteOh, I love Miss Pym Disposes, and Brat Farrar is excellent too if you haven't read it.
ReplyDeleteI've never read any of Tey's books; Miss Pym Disposes will be my first. :)
DeleteI saw Dot's Homestyle Pretzels in the store today and I passed them up! I'll get them next time I'm there. I read Santa's Sweetheart and it was pretty good, hope you enjoy it.
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear Santa's Sweetheart is good. And I should pass of Dot's Pretzels next time I'm at the store! ;D
DeleteThat oxymoron graphic cracked me up!
ReplyDeleteThe Beck book definitely sounds fun. :)
I'm looking forward to venturing back into the center of the earth with Beck. He writes fun adventures. :)
DeleteI keep saying I want to try the Jack McAvoy series..
ReplyDeleteThis first book is really good!
DeleteThe Poet sounds like a good one! Will keep this in mind. And I love that T-shirt! :D
ReplyDeleteIsn't that T-shirt fun? :D
DeleteGreat T shirt. I love Tey's books. Miss Pym was a bit different to some of her others - actually most of her books are different from each other.
ReplyDeleteI've only heard good things about Tey's books. I'm looking forward to reading this one. :)
DeleteI really want to read more Connely, especially after loving The Lincoln Lawyer and The Late Show.
ReplyDeleteI loved The Lincoln Lawyer! I think that one's still my favorite. But The Poet is really good, too. :)
DeleteI love that bookish t-shirt. So cool!
ReplyDeleteIsn't it great? :)
DeleteThat t-shirt is basically my life outside of work! Love it, lol! I didn't know Michael Connelly had another series. I enjoyed A Dark Lure! You just reminded me I have Anne Loreth White's newest, e-book and audio. Must get to it soon!
ReplyDeleteThat tee fits me to a tee, too. :D And I'm excited to read A Dark Lure. I've really liked the other Loreth Anne White books that I've read.
DeleteLove the Oxymoron Library and the T-shirt!
ReplyDeleteAren't they great? :)
DeleteGreat idea to write a post, I must remember that for the next time. There are so many "random" thinks that we con't want to write a whole review about.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely love the oxymoron library and the t-shirt, of course.
Thanks for visiting my TTT earlier.
And when you throw all those random thoughts together...you have an easy and fun post. :)
DeleteEasy? Well, maybe. But fun, for sure!
DeleteMaybe I should have said easier than writing a really good review, which I sometimes find hard. ;D
DeleteHaha, yes, that's true.
Delete😆 The oxymoron library cracked me up so much! I like Connelly — i saw him do an event here and he talked about his life as a journalist, so the authenticity here makes sense — also make me want to read this sooo much!
ReplyDeleteIsn't the oxymoron library hilarious? And The Poet is an excellent mystery. I really enjoyed it. :)
DeleteThat T-Shirt! Love it. I have never won a book on Goodreads! I keep trying though. :D
ReplyDeleteI never win anything, but I've won two books from Goodreads. So don't give up!
DeleteCongrats on your win from Goodreads! I've entered quite a few giveaways and never won. You've given me hope, so I'll keep at it :)
ReplyDeleteThe oxymoron meme is hysterical. I love it!
I've won twice now from Goodreads...so your turn is coming! Don't give up. :D
DeleteI like the Harry Bosch TV series on Prime, though I haven't read the series. Good luck with your latest haul.
ReplyDeleteThanks! I hope they all turn out to be good reads...but you never know. :)
DeleteCongrats on the free book and something to look forward to in the holiday season. And, the t-shirt is great!
