John Connolly's Every Dead Thing is a complicated and darkly compelling thriller. And too long for me to even attempt to summarize it here. (Plus, I'm lazy.) But I loved Charlie "Bird" Parker and his criminally-inclined friends, Angel and Louis, and I can't wait to read the next book in this series. Just be warned, parts of this book are very dark and not for the faint of heart. But if you like Gregg Hurwitz's Orphan X series with Evan Smoak, or Nicholas Petrie's The Drifter with Peter Ash, then you'll probably like this one, too. I did!
Happy Reading!
This going to sound mad but I've read heaps of Charlie Parker books and love them but I've never read the first one. The library didn't have it (eons ago) and my husband said it was ok to start with book two as that is when things really kick off. So I did... and never got back to book 1. I think in 2022 I should do that as I now have it on my Kindle. But oh boy, are you in for a ride!
ReplyDeleteThat's funny that you never read this first one. But I get it! I'm hoping to read the second book before the year ends. And I'm excited to see what happens next. :)
DeleteWhew! The Charlie Parker books are so dark, I hesitate when I review them about how much to say. I agree with Cath's husband, the series really kicks off with the second book!
ReplyDeleteI'm going to try and read that one next month!
Deleteit probably doesn't have anything to do with jazz? or the saxophone?...(lol)
ReplyDeleteSadly, no. :D But it does have a serial killer in it.
DeleteLOL - I love your review attitude. It annoys me sometimes to have to forego reading to write my thoughts on something I finished:)
ReplyDeleteAnd sometimes I can't think of what to say, or how to describe the book, or how to summarize a complicated plot in one paragraph...so I just don't. ;D
DeleteIt's important to keep a record of all you read, else you could end up forgetting! I know it's happened to me before...
ReplyDeleteIt happens to me, too. I've checked out more than one book at the library only to discover when I start reading it that I've actually read it before!
DeleteI don't think it's for me but I love your "review"!
ReplyDeleteYeah, this book is not for everyone. It's very dark in places.
DeleteI haven't read a John Connolly book for a long while. This one sounds good with a cast of interesting characters.
ReplyDeleteIt was really good. Which Connolly books have you read?
DeleteI think my last Connolly book is "The Book of Lost Things".
DeleteOh, I read that one! But it's been so long I barely remember it. Only that I liked it. :)
DeleteSounds great. I've only read one Hurwitz but enjoyed it. This sounds like a great thriller!
ReplyDeleteThis is a good thriller, but very dark. And sometime you should give one of Hurwitz's Orphan X books a read; I think you'd like them.
DeleteI love good thrillers although I haven't been reading as many this year. I'd love to check out this one.
ReplyDeleteIt was a good one. A bit complicated, and also dark, but very compelling too.
DeleteI have not read anything by John Connolly, but I should. I've heard he's very good.
ReplyDeleteI've read two books by him now and liked them both. He's an author I'll be reading again, for sure. :)
DeleteI've not yet read any of Connolly's books but I think I might start with The Book of Lost Things because I've heard so many good things about it!
ReplyDeleteI liked the one! It's a good one to start with. :)
DeleteI need to read more Connolly — this series in particular gets great reviews!
ReplyDeleteI can see why. He writes very well, and he's created some great characters. :)
