Randomness...

I recently finished reading this fun science fiction sequel:  Antimatter Blues by Edward Ashton.

The previous book, Mickey 7, was one of my favorite reads last summer. And this one is an equally entertaining adventure.

My library haul for August:

The Murder of My Aunt by Richard Hull
Operation Pineapple Express by Scott Mann
Crow Talk by Eileen Garvin
A Rip in Time by Kelley Armstrong
Murder Road by Simone St. James
On the Wrong Track by Steve Hockensmith
A Lady's Guide to Fortune-Hunting by Sophie Irwin
Love Unscripted by Denise Hunter

5 things that made me glad last month:
  • My sister's back surgery went well; we're hoping her nerve pain will subside as she continues to heal.
  • The Paris Olympics started! (My favorite sporting event.)
  • I took a fun jewelry class on enameling with my niece and made a cool & colorful necklace.
  • Salt Lake City (my home town) was chosen to host the Winter Olympics again in 2034. (I've already started saving to buy tickets.)
  • I've been listening to (and loving!) Pop Evil's album Skeletons, especially their song Worth It. There's such a great message in it:  "You're the reason and the purpose; I promise you, you're worth it."

What about you? What's made you happy lately?

  1. I hope you enjoy On the Wrong Track. Hockensmith's series is one of my favorites.

All my best to your sister on her recovery. As you know, I, too, have someone who's undergone back surgery.

    1. I'm glad they are able to fix so many back issues with less invasive surgeries these days. Pain like that is no fun. I hope Denis continues to be okay despite those loose screws in his back! And I'm really looking forward to reading On the Wrong Track. I loved the first book! :D

  2. I've been glued to the Olympics which means I am stuck on Demon Copperhead for a week, but what fun! My grandfather rowed in the 1924 Olympics so it is fun to imagine him there (he did it for the free training meals unlike these dedicated athletes). I enjoyed that Sophie Irwin and plan to read A Rip in Time soon. I am still on the waiting list for the new Katherine Center.

  10. I enjoyed A Lady's Guide to Fortune-Hunting! I thought it was really fun. Hope you enjoy it as well!

The Olympics have been disappointing for me this time just because I've been too busy to really enjoy them like I want to! Hope you get more time than I do to really watch these amazing sporting events.

  21. That sci fi series sounds very good. I liked Murder of My Aunt and A Rip Through Time. I hope you do too.

Very Cool that the Olympics will be in Salt Lake City in 10 years.

I am happy for your sister. What kind of back problem did she have?

    1. She had some bulging disks and bone spurs that were pressing against her nerve, and nearly flattening it in some spots, so she was getting nerve pain down in her legs and feet. Not fun.

  22. It sounds like you had a good July! I am glad your sister's surgery went well. I hope her recovery goes smoothly and she is pain-free. We really enjoyed the Olympics and I was a little sad to see them come to an end. I don't know if we'll make it to any of the events in 2024, but it's exciting to think they'll be so close.
