Creating your own magical library by collecting and shelving a variety of rare books is the object of Ex Libris. Each round opens with several new shops being randomly chosen and laid out that you can then visit on your turn to trade, donate, and acquire more books for your library--from Monster Manuals and Fantastical Fiction to Corrupted Codices. All you have to do is shelve the most books, earn the most points, and you win the title of Grand Librarian!
This game isn't difficult, though there is a bit of a learning curve the first time you play as you try to figure out the best way to shelve your books in order to earn the most points, as well as how to utilize the special skills of your particular library (which changes each time you play). This game is for 1-5 players and it plays in just 30-60 minutes. I thought it was a lot of fun! I especially loved reading all the clever book titles on each of the cards from Nancy Druid and The Hardly Boys to Dungeon Decorating for Dummies. Each new title made me smile. And I had a lot of fun collecting all these crazy books for my own gnomish library. (I even came in second!) So if you're looking for an imaginative and entertaining bookish game that's got fantastic illustrations, check this one out!
Can you tell I liked this one?
Cool! I love the board games still exist!ReplyDelete
Me, too! :DDelete
That sounds pretty cool but I doubt I could get anyone to play with me. My husband and his friends are into Magic the Gathering & Settlers of Cattan and not books :(ReplyDelete
I like Settlers of Cataan, but I liked this one even better. Too bad you, me and Jenclair don't live closer together; we could have a game night sometime. :)Delete
I doubt I could get anyone to play with me, either, but I'd love to try it!ReplyDelete
:D I know how that goes! (I was the youngest kid in the family and everyone else outgrew board games before me.)Delete
What a fun game! I would love to see the game pieces and board in depth.ReplyDelete
It's illustrated very well and a lot of fun to look at...besides being fun to play. :)Delete
I love the book titles! Whoever thought this up was very clever.ReplyDelete
Yes! I wish I was as clever. :)Delete
I will have to put this on the Christmas List. We usually pick a new game every year and this one looks like lots of fun.ReplyDelete
This would be a great Christmas gift/game! :)Delete
Sounds like a lot of fun! :)ReplyDelete
It is. But then I've always loved playing games. :DDelete
This is definitely going on my wish list. It sounds irresistible!ReplyDelete
It's so much fun. :)Delete
I'm going to be on the lookout for this. It looks really fun!ReplyDelete
It's cleverly done, and different from most other games I've played.Delete
I almost bought this on a whim. Definitely going to pick it up now!ReplyDelete
