This week's theme: BOOKS THAT FEATURE TRAVEL.
This was a pretty easy post for me because I love reading travel memoirs and about faraway places I would love to visit someday. So, here are MY 10 FAVORITE TRAVEL READS.
Maiden Voyage by Tania Aebi
(A book about a girl who sails around the world on her own.)
The Road to Ubar by Nicholas Clapp
(An amateur archaeologist's search for the fabled Arabian city.)
Hitchhiking Vietnam by Karin Muller
(A woman's solo journey across Vietnam.)
Tracks by Robyn Davidson
(A woman's journey across the Australian desert...with camels.)
Lost in the Amazon by Stephen Kirkpatrick
(Five men battling to survive in the Amazon jungle.)
The Art of Pilgrimage by Phil Cousineau
(One of my favorite books on travel and making your own pilgrimages in life.)
Sahara Unveiled by William Langeweische
(A man's journey from Algiers to Dakar across the vast and lonely Saharan desert.)
The Nile by Toby Wilkinson
(A fabulous look at Egypt and a journey down the Nile.)
The Coolest Race on Earth by John Hanc
(Running a marathon in Antarctica!)
Lost Among the Birds by Neil Hayward
(One man's big year birding.)
Happy Reading!
(And traveling by book all over the world.)
Wow - from the heat to the cold and all the in between, right? I'm enjoying seeing how people are interpreting this topic. Nice picks, Lark!
ReplyDeleteI love reading about places I'll probably never get to travel to in real life so it made it easy and fun to put together this list. :D

ReplyDeleteI loved that one!
DeleteI don't read non fiction but I see a few here I'd love to try. Fun list!
ReplyDeleteI've always really enjoyed reading travel memoirs. If I can't travel somewhere, I can at least read about it in a book. :D
DeleteMy ten books this week are all fiction as I don't read enough non-fiction travel to make a whole list. These books all sound great, though!
ReplyDeleteI went through several years where all I wanted to read was a really good travel memoir. :D

ReplyDeleteI really loved The Art of Pilgrimage. I got it when I was in my 20s and still dreamed about traveling all around the world someday.
DeleteYou found some great travel books there, Lark. I haven't read any of them but they all sound fascinating.

ReplyDeleteThey're one of my favorite kinds of books to read...when I can find them.
DeleteI missed TTT this week... but this is such a fun list! I picked up a copy of Tracks ages ago and never got around to reading it. This is a great reminder that I still want to!

ReplyDeleteBoth are very interesting and fun reads!
DeleteLots of great sounding books here, Lark. I am going to add a few of them to my nonfiction shelf.
