My summer vacation has officially started (one of the benefits of working at an elementary school), which means my summer reading begins today as well. And there are SO many books I want to read. My list of mysteries, popcorn thrillers, romance, historical fiction and nonfiction books is long enough for three summers at least, which gives me lots of books to choose from these next two and a half months. The only problem is deciding where to start.
As for my first fiction reads of summer I'm trying to decide between Coram House by Bailey Seybolt, A Murder Most Camp by Nicolas DiDomizio and The Inklings Detective Agency by John R. Kelly. At least those are the top three books sitting in my library bag. I might change my mind and dig deeper into the bag for something else. Who knows. I'm just looking forward to a summer of free reading. What about you? What books are you hoping to read this summer?
Happy Reading!

So happy that you're now on your summer break, Lark. I hope you find some excellent books to read over the next couple of months! I have a list of half a dozen I want to get to, including Nephthys by Rachel Driscoll (Egypt yarn), The Fall of Hyperion by Dan Simmons and The Two Towers by Tolkien. I have several crime series I want to catch up on too. Happy summer!
ReplyDeleteCatching up on series is always good...and feels like a neverending goal. I have some series I'd like to catch up on, too. And I saw a fantasy movie the other day that's really put me in the mood to reread The Hobbit. So that might happen this summer, too. :D
DeleteI hope you have a great summer vacation and enjoy whatever you decide to read! I don't think I've read any nonfiction about the Revolutionary War, so The Swamp Fox sounds interesting to me.
ReplyDeleteIt was so fascinating to see that part of the war. I learned a lot.
DeleteYay for summer break! I don't know much about the Revolutionary War outside of the big Virginia/northern battles. This sounds like an interesting read.
ReplyDeleteIt was SO fascinating. I never knew how important the Southern front was.
DeleteGlad you are starting your summer break, Lark! Hope you enjoy whatever books you decide to read and have a great reading summer!!
ReplyDeleteThere's so many good ones on my list to choose from...I'm sure I'll be doing a lot of mood reading. :D
DeleteIt was common in the 19th century for men in one of my family lines to bear the name Francis Marion, and during the Revolution my great-great(etc) was located in that area of South Carolina. The Swamp Fox was obviously an inspiration!
ReplyDeleteI did not enter my name -- Stephen @ Reading Freely. :)
DeleteHe's hugely popular in South Carolina. And for good reason. He did so much to help win the Revolutionary War. And thanks for commenting! :D
DeleteEnjoy your summer break!
ReplyDeleteI read a little bit about Marion Francis in some book on the American Revolution--I forget which one. I'll bet that was pretty fascinating.
So fascinating! I never knew that much about him, but he was quite the guy.
DeleteI always wanted to work for a school so I could have summers off. I hope you have lots of reading time😁
ReplyDeleteThanks! Summers off are the best. I love the break from alarm clocks and stress. ;D
DeleteYay for summer break! Like you, I've got a stack of books I hope to get to.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see what you read! Though it'll probably add to my own TBR list. ;D
DeleteHappy Vacation, Lark! We are a family of school teachers and administrators, so both my daughters, one grandson, my granddaughter, and one son-in-law are enjoying some downtime now to one degree or another.
ReplyDeleteRevolutionary War history is especially fascinating to me mainly because we covered such a limited part of it geographically in every class I ever took on it. A lot more happened down South than most people realize.
I certainly never realized how much of it took place down South. Or the importance of all those battles. Most history classes only talk about Boston and Yorktown. Which is why I liked this book so much. And both my parents were schoolteachers, so I grew up thinking you always got summers off. ;D
DeleteYay for summer break and for more reading time! I'm not very familiar about the Southern front either, so this sounds fascinating!
ReplyDeleteIt was such a great book. I learned a lot. :D
DeleteI hope you find lots of great books to read this Summer.
ReplyDelete:D Thanks! If I'm lucky there will be more 5-star reads than 3-star.
DeleteYay for summer vacation! This one sounds interesting. I always think of the Revolutionary War and the Civil War as being a long time ago, but it really hasn't been that long! Kind of scary when you think about it!
ReplyDeleteIt does make you stop and think.
DeleteThat's nice you're on your summer break! So much to read is a good problem. I guess I need to brush up on who Marion Francis was during the Revolution ... thx for the history.
ReplyDeleteHe was quite the man. And The Swamp Fox is an excellent biography. I really loved it.
DeleteWoo hoo! Summer vacation :) Sounds like you are going to have so much fun reading it up - love it!
ReplyDeleteSummer's the best just for the hours I can spend reading. :D
DeleteYay for summer break! I miss having summers off, but I can't complain, I still get plenty of reading in. I think I am going to try to finish the Only Magic in the Building series this summer, plus Pepper Basham's newest, A Brewed Awakening, and Lynette Eason's Lake Hero series. I hope you enjoy everything you decide on :)
ReplyDeleteThe Only Magic in the Building series is a fun one! I've read all but one of them. I should finish that series up this summer, too. :D And I love that Pepper Basham has a new one out. I'll have to see if I can get it from my library. Happy reading!
DeleteSO jealous! I have 3 weeks left...but only 12 days
ReplyDeleteIt is the one major perk of my job. ;D
