A bookish slump...

For some reason I'm not in the mood to read any of my library books. I don't know why. I wanted to read them when I put them on hold. And when I checked them out. But now that I've got them home, none of them seem remotely appealing. In fact, I can't seem to make myself read any book at all. Not even one of my favorite reads. Has this ever happened to you? Maybe it's because I'm running tired. Or feeling stressed. Whatever the reason behind my current bookish slump, here's what I'm doing instead of cracking open a book:

  • going through my closet and discarding all the clothes I no longer wear (or like)
  • organizing my book shelves
  • writing a few future blog posts
  • binge-watching reruns of The Walking Dead and Project Runway
  • eating too much chocolate
So while my library books remain unread, at least my bedroom is cleaner. And I'm feeling a bit more organized. Still, I'm really hoping my bookish slump ends soon and the mood to read returns. I miss having a good book waiting for me when I get home from work. Sigh. Until then, I hope all of you are happily engrossed in your book!

Happy Reading!

  1. I'm so sorry to hear about your slump. It's such an awful feeling - sometimes it feels almost like I've forgotten how to read, the words just sit there on the page.

    1. Yeah, when I'm pulling out the vacuum instead of opening a book you know it's bad. Some weeks are like that, though. I blame work and lack of sleep. I'm sure if I lived on vacation time near a beautiful beach I'd never have this problem. :)

  2. I wrote a blog post about bursting through a blog slump today but it doesn't publish for a while! Organising your shelves was one of my suggestions! As was watching some bookish tie-in movies/tv series, rereading a favourite or switching genre. Or just remembering there is more to life than books!

And of course eating chocolate cures all :D

    1. :) Chocolate is the cure-all, isn't it? I think I'm going to take all my library books back tomorrow and try again. Maybe something will jump out at me that I actually want to read. But my bookshelves look a whole lot better right now. :)

  3. I feel your pain. I am in a bit of a bookish slump myself. Sometimes I can break a slump by switching genres, but I think the stress and tiredness are making my brain too scattered to read. I am trying the chocolate treatment. I am also skimming newspapers and magazines, and am reading a book of poetry...I can usually make it through a poem or two! At least your living space is getting more organized. Perhaps when the weather turns, you will feel like warming up inside with a good book. Otherwise, you may have to hope for a beach cure! Good luck!!

  4. Ha! A familiar feeling. It is always amazing how much I can get done if I'm in a book slump!

    1. Isn't it the truth? But even though I'm getting things done...I'd much rather be reading a good book. :)

  5. What about reading a short book (wrt page count)? That kick-started me out of my summer long reading ennui. Perhaps it may help? In the meantime, go out there and enjoy non-bookish things!

    1. Thanks! I've been dipping in and out of books hoping something will take...I don't have to go to work tomorrow so I just might head to the library and try again. And look for something short! :)

  6. Oh, you have my sympathy. I've been there! But you're clearing closets and eating chocolate, and everything will be all right. Even when it seems like no book will ever captivate you again, soon thereafter the next ideal book will find you.

    1. So true! I picked up different books at the library the other day that look good, and am currently (and happily) ensconced in Dracula. But it was a bit rough last week when I couldn't make myself read anything. Thanks for caring. :)
