A bookish update...

Just finished reading:

This book is a very intense and dark psychological thriller
that reminded me of Pessl's Night Film.

So this year I decided to fully embrace Nonfiction November.
Here are the eight nonfiction books that I checked out of the library last Friday and plan on reading throughout the month of November:

Into Thin Air by Jon Krakauer
The Wright Brothers by David McCullough
Live Long And -- What I Learned Along the Way by William Shatner
I'd Rather Be Reading by Anne Vogel
Ten Tea Parties: Patriotic Protests That History Forgot by Joseph Cummins
Valley Forge by Bob Drury
Pale Rider: The Spanish Flu of 1918 by Laura Spinney
Walking the Amazon by Ed Stafford

(Don't know if I'll manage to read them all, but I'm going to give it a try.)

Two stupid things that made me laugh:

The title of this  book:

And this misspelled word:

"Boomkark"

(I saw it on some website recently; and while I know they meant
to write bookmark instead, I think I like this word better.)

Another favorite John Atkinson cartoon:

Happy Reading!

  1. I almost picked up Watch The Girls the other day at the library. Now I wish I did, lol. And that Atkinson cartoon is hilarious.

  2. I'm interested in Pale Rider by Spinney because I read so many books that reference it in both fiction and nonfiction. I love "boomkark" and the abridged classics!

  3. I loved Night Film so I will put Watch The Girls on my list.

Nice November Non-fic pics! I shy away from Non-fiction which is silly, I know. I am particularly interested in the William Shatner title, so I hope you get to that one at least. :)

  4. I love that cartoon - it's foggy - ha! And may I suggest that you start your non-fiction reading with Anne Bogel's book - you'll enjoy it, I promise. I've also read Into Thin Air - very, very good. Enjoy!

    1. I know what you mean. There are always more books to read than time to read them. :D

  9. Game of Scones is such a fun, punny title, lol. And Boomkark! I'm laughing so hard at that!

  10. Oooh, The Spanish Flu, those plague books fascinate and horrify me. I hope you enjoy it and all the others too.

    1. One of the scariest books I ever read was a nonfiction book on viruses and how they spillover from the animal kingdom to humans. I hope the Spanish Flu book is just as good. :)

Into Thin Air sounds really interesting.

  12. Can you believe I've never read Night Film? I need to get to that someday. It seems everyone has read it and I'm not even sure what it's about. Love that cartoon! I hate the story of Wuthering Heights. So depressing, and yes, foggy, lol! :)

  14. The Spanish Flu book interests me. As I understand it may have killed 50 million? worldwide and yet no one really knows about this flu, its been forgotten maybe because World War 1 overshadowed what otherwise would have been a major historical event.

    1. I want to read that one because it's the 100 year anniversary of the Spanish Flu and it just seems like the perfect time to learn more about it. :)

    1. I never manage to read more than nonfiction book a month, if I'm lucky, which is why I decided to only read nonfiction this month. I needed to catch up.
