February's Bookish Art...

Henry John Hudson -- The Letter

"There was nothing like that feeling of holding a book in your hands and traveling to another place, another time...another life."

  2. I love the bookish art you post, but I just realized that even back then it must have been considered somewhat out of the ordinary to see a man actually sitting down and reading a book. We are just too few in number...or still foolishly concerned about the "image" it may portray of our maleness.

I did often see men at burger places reading while they ate alone, but since COVID-19, I haven't had that experience, so maybe I'm exaggerating some.

    1. You've made me curious how many paintings there are of men reading; I haven't seen very many. But then I haven't really looked.

    2. I made a quick search yesterday, but I didn't come up with any paintings, just lots of photos of men reading and women saying how "sexy" that was to them. That last bit surprised me, I have to admit.

  4. I like that she's holding her umbrella. She couldn't wait to sit down to read. :-) Love the quote. Thank you for sharing, Lark!

  9. I love it! This pictures makes me wonder . . . is she waiting to go somewhere and reading like me to pass the time? Or is the journey in her novel?
