- The Eyre Affair by Jasper Fforde (It'll give you a whole new appreciation of Jane Eyre!)
- A Room With A View by E. M. Forster (This is Forster's BEST novel; I love it more each time I read it.)
- A Walk in the Woods by Bill Bryson (Just the parts about the bears can make me laugh, not to mention his out-of-shape hiking buddy on Day 1 on the Appalachian Trail.)
- The Paperbag Princess by Robert Munsch (The one picture book EVERY girl should own!)
- Can You Keep A Secret? by Sophie Kinsella (This tops her Shopaholic books for funny.)
- The Egyptologist by Arthur Phillips (Such an odd, quirky book...just thinking about it makes me smile.)
- The Sleeping Tiger by Rosamunde Pilcher (I love all her books, but this one is a favorite...plus, it takes place on the lovely island of Mallorca.)
- Ella Minnow Pea by Mark Dunn (An epistolary gem!)
- The Secret Shortcut by Mark Teague (Although any Mark Teague picture book will lift your spirits.)
- Soulless by Gail Carriger (This supernatural adventure of practical Alexia and her parasol makes me chuckle; plus her werewolf suitor is hunky.)
What books make you laugh?
The Eyre Affair is good recommendation. I can also see how Bill Bryson would make one chuckle (I listened a bit of one of his books on audio, narrated by himself - but I thin Walk in the Woods would be even funnier). Also thank you for mentioning Ella Minnow Pea, I remembered that I have it on Kindle and now I will bump it up in to be read list, because, why not.
ReplyDeleteI hope you enjoy it; Ella Minnow Pea is so unique and fun...I love it.
DeleteBill Bryson is great, and I love Mark Teague...especially The Secret Shortcut. I also love Kinsella's Can You Keep a Secret? Other books I keep on my shelf for the times when I need a laugh include "Austenland" by Shannon Hale and Meg Cabot's "Boy Meets Girl" and "The Boy Next Door."
ReplyDeleteMeg Cabot's books ARE funny; you're right.
DeleteI love the Thursday Next series. Thanks for reminding me to pick up the next book (and a few laughs in the process)! :)
ReplyDeleteAren't they great books? I love how original (and fun) they are!
DeleteThe Egyptologist has gone on my wishlist - I looked it up on goodreads and it sounds like a lot of fun!
ReplyDeleteI don't know why, but I really love The Egyptologist. It's definitely one-of-a-kind. I hope you enjoy it. :)
