A few non-reviews...

Do you ever have days where you just don't feel like reviewing the last book you read? Even when it was good? Because some days I'm really tired and I don't feel like trying to figure out how to summarize a story, or find the right words to describe what I liked or didn't like about a book. Some days I just want to post a picture of the cover and say, "I read this one; it was good" and call it a day. So that's what I'm going to do with these three recent reads. (And I'll try and get my reviewing mojo back by my next post.)

Tahoe Deathfall is the first book in Borg's series about private investigator Owen McKenna. It's a fun mystery set in Tahoe that I really enjoyed. I will be reading more books in this series.

The Littlest Library by Poppy Alexander is a cute story set in a quaint English village; it reminded me a lot of Rosamunde Pilcher's books, though not as good. I wanted there to be more when it came to Jess and Aidan's friendship/romance.

Yes & I Love You
is another captivating and swoony (and very steamy!) romance by Roni Loren. I LOVED Hollyn and Jasper and their humorous and sweet 'improv dating'!

Happy Reading!

  1. Lark, I think your 'non-reviews' are indeed 'reviews'. Ha! Feel free to do them this way whenever. I know what you mean though. Sometimes the thought of a more formal review is just a bit tiresome. Ha! That's kind of a place I'm in myself.

    1. It can be tiresome to write a "real" review. It does help me remember the book better when I do it, but lately I'm not feeling too motivated. :)

  2. Yes! Yes, yes, yes, absolutely I understand. I feel like that quite a lot. And for what it's worth I like a very short review better than I like really, really long ones... which I often skim read or fail to get to the end of. These days I do the odd longer one but mostly shorter. I think whatever suits you is good, we're not being paid after all. :-)

    1. I don't always read really long reviews either. And I certainly don't like to write them. I would have done haikus for these, but the plots just didn't lend themselves to poetry this week.

  3. Boy, do I ever understand what you mean about writing reviews! In fact, I'm sitting here visiting blogs instead of writing one right now. I'm glad you enjoyed Tahoe Deathfall and will continue with the series. :-)

    1. Visiting blogs is easier than writing blogposts! ;D And thanks for introducing me to Borg's series. This one was fun.

  4. YES! I need to write 2 reviews and I don't want to do ANYTHING. I am wiped out. I wanted more in The Littlest Library as well.

  5. I love your non-review idea. I've done it a few times when the book blurb was sufficient and I just want to remember I read it and liked it. :) I might have to try your Tahoe mystery for the setting and I already love Roni Loren's books though I haven't started this series.

    1. I love when I can use the book blurb instead of trying to write my own summary! And all three of Roni Loren's books in this series are awesome. I loved them all. :D

  6. I have pledged myself to review every book I read on Goodreads and to share the review on my blog. Sometimes that's not easy but I am determined to do it, because I know the world is waiting with bated breath for my reviews! And also because it helps me to remember what I've read.

    1. ;D One of the reasons I started a bookish blog was because I was reading so many books I was starting to forget what I read and I thought writing about them and reviewing them would help me remember them better. And it does to a certain extent.

  7. I like these short reviews, now I want to write shorter reviews too.

  8. I feel that way alot. Reviewing is tough and I find that knowing I have to review slows down the number pf books I could be reading each month. I too want to try to write shorter reviews

    1. Reviewing does slow down the number of books I read, which I don't like. So maybe I'll do more short reviews like this.

  9. I love this! I absolutely have books like this -- sometimes even books that I love, but I can't figure out what to say other than "this was great! you should read this book!!"

    1. Right? Some books are so easy to review, but with others I can't ever seem to find the right words...even when I really liked the book!

  10. I understand completely! I am so behind with writing reviews because I simply can't focus on what to say - and really I just want to get on with reading my next book.

  11. I know what you mean. I usually put the book aside for a while and then review it, often I get a better result once the book sunk in. But I love your idea of doing these short reviews. Well done.

    1. I'd probably forget all about the book if I put it aside to write about later. ;D

    2. Well, that's one of the problems.

  12. Yes, I totally understand that feeling. I've got quite a few books that I need to review, but the right words just won't come. I've considered doing a sorta "Book Spotlight" post on my blog for them, but I just haven't gotten around to it yet. I love your idea of doing these short "non-reviews". So cool! :)

    1. A 'book spotlight' sounds like a good idea, too. Because sometimes the right words don't come!

  13. Totally relatable, Lark!
Your non-reviews still seem like reviews to me so I don't mind reading this format at times. ;)

    1. I might start doing it more often! It sure was easier than trying to think up a summary. ;D

  14. I totally love this! So many times I just want to say "it was good, read it!" and be done. I used to do reviews sort of like this and call them "short and tweet" writing a review the length (or thereabouts) of a tweet. I should do those more. Sometimes I'm just scratching my head over what to say. And I'm sure people don't mind reading short reviews.

Roni Loren does spice so well! She wrote erotica, but it wasn't all just sex, sex, sex. I called it smart-girl erotica. Great reviews, Lark! :)

  15. Unfortunately most of my days lately are days I don't feel like--or have time to--writing reviews. :-( I should take a page off your blog and do something like this too. Yes & I Love You sounds so good!

  16. I do feel that way sometimes, definitely! And sometimes a short and sweet review is just right! I like the sound of these, especially the first two!

  17. Love reading and sometimes feel just obligated to write a review of the book. The books are far and few inbetween that I can't wait to write a review about, sadly.

    1. There are definitely books I'm excited to write about and share with everyone...but I don't always want to 'review' the book. Sometimes it just feels like too much work. ;D

  18. This post is so relatable. Sometimes you simply don’t have the time or words or inspiration to fully review everything!

  19. Oh I totally hear you on the review front. I'm so behind on reviews and well that's just the way it goes sometimes. But, I have to say your short snippets stilled drew me in and I want to know more about all of these! So I'll have check them out!

    1. I really liked these books, but I just couldn't face reviewing them. Glad this seemed to work.

  20. I totally agree with you -- some days all I want to do is post a cover and say 'read this now' and that's it :) I don't think your reviews are non-reviews, they're just... short !

  21. These reviews are helpful and draw me in. I hate that I can't review all the books I read and I have a goal to be able to cut down the length of my reviews and quit stressing about it. But I am not there yet.

    1. It's hard! I've stopped trying to review all the books I read now, but I do like mentioning the really good ones.
