This week's theme is Mainstream Popular Authors That I Still Have Not Read.
(Don't judge me, but it was embarrassingly easy to put together a list of 10 authors for this post that I haven't yet read. And they're all such popular authors, too. Many have been on my To Read list for years. And yet I still haven't read any of their books. 😔 )

Yeah, ditto Brandon Sanderson and Blake Crouch. I really want to try something by Sanderson and Crouch's 'Pines' series which I hear is excellent. I did try Elizabeth Strout and was bored silly by the book and dnfed it. I expect you have more perseverence than me. LOL!
ReplyDeleteMy sister recommended a trilogy by Sanderson to me, so I really want to try those books by him. And I'm intrigued by a lot of Crouch's books. I tried on of Backman's books once and didn't get through it, but I feel like maybe I should try him again. And my tolerance for slow pacing and boring plots is really low lately...I've become an impatient reader and am quick to DNF any books I'm not enjoying these days, so who knows if I'd make it through a Strout novel or not. ;D
DeleteYou're not the only one, Lark. I'm the same too. I've heard so many good things about Anne Cleeves' books, yet I've not read any of her books. Maybe that'll be on my to-read list next year.

DeleteI've read books by some of these, but certainly not all. I have enjoyed Jane Harper's Aaron Falk books and a couple of her standalones and also Anne Cleeves' Vera books. I am determined to start her Shetland series this next year.

DeleteI won't judge, as I haven't read any of those authors either, apart from one book by Elizabeth Strout which I didn't like much (The Burgess Boys). I'm not sure if I'll try any of the other authors on your list - maybe some of them!

DeleteFrederick Backman is the only one I've read from your list and he is a wonderful writer. His covers make his books seem like they are fluff, but he writes about very deep topics.

DeleteI've DNF-ed one of Backman's, but liked the others I've read. I also like Jane Harper for a break now and then from my usual types of books. Colleen Hoover--not me. Stout put me to sleep. The others I don't know.
ReplyDeleteSeveral people have said Strout put them to sleep...that doesn't bode well for me. Jane Harper is one I think I'd really like.
DeleteHaven't read or heard of Mary Lawson, John Sanford or Elizabeth Strout. Haven't read Sanderson or Kingfisher either. I love Jane Harper, Colleen Hoover is hit or miss for me. Read one book by Backman, Crouch, and Wells. I liked them well enough but not enough to pick up more. :)

ReplyDeleteRight? That's been happening to me a lot lately. My TBR list is full of new-to-me authors that everyone else seems to be reading and loving. I just don't have the time to read everything I want. But then who does? ;D

DeleteWhat a great Top Ten Tuesday subject. And it's amazing how many popular authors I haven't read. I did read "It Ends With Us" by Colleen Hoover. Cannot recommend it but I would like to give Colleen Hoover another try.

DeleteI liked Elizabeth Strout, so I'd recommend her. I think I read some Anne Cleeves mysteries once upon a time but I don't remember them for sure. (And maybe Brandon Sanderson? Didn't he finish somebody else's series?)
ReplyDeleteI think Sanderson finished Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time fantasy series. And now he has a whole slew of his own books which my nephews both really love but which I've never read.
DeleteI just started reading Martha Wells' Murderbot series this last year and love it! Hope you get a chance to read her, too.

DeleteI definitely recommend Ann Cleeves but Jane Harper's books never seem to be a good as their reviews. The ones I have read are certainly very readable but I do like to have at least one likable character.

DeleteI've read at least one book by six of these authors. I'm a big fan of Harper, Backman, Crouch, and Cleeves (although I'm way behind on her books). I hope you enjoy these authors when you get to them!

DeleteOoooh, you're in for some great reading with Mary Lawson. I've read her books with several book clubs and have yet to find a reader who didn't like them. I've read all her books and hope she will write another one soon.

DeleteI've read a couple of Brandon Sanderson's books and enjoyed them. I loved Murderbot by Martha Wells but haven't gotten around to the rest of the series yet. I have several T. Kingfisher books on my TBR list, but haven't gotten around to them yet. They sound awesome though.

DeleteI don't recognize all of these, but the first four on the list are all favorites of mine that I've come to consider "old reliables." Strout and Lawson have especially impressed me with the depth of their novels, and Cleeves and Backman have kept me thoroughly entertained. Wells is another I've read, but I've kind of cooled off on her series so it's been a while.
ReplyDeleteYou have really praised Strout's, Lawson's and Backman's novels...which is one of the reasons I want to read them. It's just a matter of making the time. (And maybe checking out fewer books from my library... ;D )

ReplyDeleteThat seems to be a popular sentiment regarding Colleen Hoover's books; makes me wonder which of her books to try, and which I should avoid.
DeleteI think you'd really enjoy John Sandford and Blake Crouch. Both are very different, but they each write page-turners!
