What's up?

This post is supposed to be a review. At least that's how I planned it out in my head at the beginning of the month. But as you can see, I have no review to post today. The last book I finished was Dread Journey by Dorothy B. Hughes, which I loved, but I decided to write a haiku review for that one because it was easier.

I also recently finished The Love Plot by Samantha Young which is a sweet and steamy grumpy vs. sunshine fake-dating romance that I liked. So why didn't I review that one? *shrugs*  I guess I'm not feeling too motivated to write these days. But I am reading.

Right now I'm in the middle of three books:  True Biz, Emily Wilde's Encyclopaedia of Faeries, and The Wind in the Willows. They're each unique and entertaining in their own way, and I'm enjoying all of them. Hopefully, I should have some short reviews ready to go for my next post. Until then...

Happy Reading!

  1. I like your post. I often feel this way too. In March I read The Legend of Sleepy Hollow and Ramona The Pest. I enjoyed both books a great deal but the energy to do the reviews is not there and it's not the fault of these books by any means. I want to begin to do shorter reviews but they are not that easy to do either.

    1. I think sometimes, Kathy, that shorter reviews are even more difficult. It's a whole different animal, seems like.

    2. Agree Sam short reviews are not easy to write. It's a technique that requires skill and it's difficult to master. Maybe with practice.

    3. That's what it's been for me...a lack of energy! And I'm not sure how to combat it.

  2. There seems to be a lot of that going around at the moment. I think we all go through this kind of thing periodically, but it's kind of unusual to see so many of us experiencing it at the same time. I've got two reviews staring me in the face despite the fact that I know the longer I wait, the harder it will be to do a decent look-back, much less give any kind of meaningful insight. Some days I just want to read...not write. Seems like there are more days like that right now than for a while. But, hey, at least we're all still reading!

    1. We are still reading! Though I agree that lots of bloggers seem to be struggling keeping their blogs going these days. Which makes me sad. But I totally understand. I'm struggling to make myself write reviews lately. There's got to be some other way to write/chat about books we've read on our blogs...I just haven't found it yet.

  3. I've been doing a lot of rereading and usually I don't write a second review for those books (even if I didn't write a review the first time around). I am in the midst of a good book now and will likely share about it when I finish. Love the 'Keep Calm and Read On' sentiment. LOL

    1. I don't like writing reviews for rereads either. And I also struggle with books in a series sometimes...I don't always know how to sum up the character's growth over all those books.

  4. That sounds like some great reading, especially Emily Wilde's Encyclopaedia of Faeries and The Wind in the Willows. I have to read Wind in the Willows this year.

I agree with what Sam said. It is strange that so many people are experiencing a slow down (and lack of motivation?) at the same time. I am trying not to push myself too hard.

    1. I'm trying to give myself grace this year to do what I can and not be so hard on myself. But it's been a struggle.
And I'm really enjoying The Wind in the Willows. The writing is so good...but certainly not for children. I love Ratty and Mole. :D

  5. I applaud your post, Lark! It is hard to find to write reviews sometimes (most times, actually) but I'm trying not to be so concerned about what I write anymore. That way I don't stress about it as much. I think it's okay to just write a few update sentences and be done. :)

    1. That's what my reviews seem to be coming to lately...just a few sentences. But that's okay. I want blogging to be fun, not a chore. It would also help if I wasn't so tired all the time. ;D

  6. I've been looking forward to Emily Wilde's Encyclopaedia of Faeries. Hoping I can read it soon. I've been having trouble writing reviews lately. I feel like mine all sound the same. I think I just go through these phases sometimes, so I'm trying to give myself a little grace. :)

    1. Grace is good. And I know what you mean...my reviews have started feeling too much the same, too. I need to think of some way to change them up somehow.

  7. I haven't read as much this month as I did last month either. At least I still have a few posts ready to go for the coming weeks.

  9. This is how I've been feeling too. I tend to go through this a lot. Sometimes I get energized and the reviews write themselves but more often than not it's become a struggle.

    1. I love it when a review practically writes itself. But lately, I can't seem to find anything to say about the books I've been reading...even the ones I like. I don't know why.

  10. Lark, I can relate. So, I dig it if you want to just read and not post a review and share what you are reading, or just not post at all. Do what works for you :) I'm here for any of it. I think that's why I did the 100 Days Project - I wasn't posting on my blogs and decided I wanted to get back on track with both of them, so I made that my project - to write a blog post for either blog every day. And, so far, it's working. Of course, not every post is a review or very chatty. Some are just me posting about a TBR book or music I'm listening to. But, I'm enjoying it and that's what matters. I had stopped enjoying it, which is why I had stopped blogging. Anyhow, I'm glad you are enjoying your books. I love The Wind in the Willows and re-read that one last year. Such a good one! Wishing you a lovely weekend :)

    1. Hi, Nadia! I love that your 100 Days Project has brought back your blogging mojo. It's important to find ways to post that don't feel like a chore. And The Wind in the Willows was a lot of fun. I'm glad I finally read it. :D

  11. Some books are just super hard to write reviews for and sometimes we just aren't in the mood! I'm glad to see you but glad you're not forcing yourself to post something when you're just not feeling it!

    1. So many people are saying that! I wish I knew what the answer was. There's got to be some way to make writing about the books we read fun again.

    1. It's been so hard lately to write anything! Even books I'm enjoying I just don't feel like writing a review of them. I think I have what the French call ennui. ;D
