Are We There Yet? by Savannah Scott
Four friends. One road trip.
Adventure, laughter, and love
on Route 66.
Romantic comedy .... 388 pages .... 4/5 stars.
(Gotta love a fun summer road trip book, especially one with such a cute romance.)
The Girls Who Disappeared by Claire Douglas
Three girls gone. Digging
for the truth, Jenna uncovers
past secrets and lies.
Thriller .... 367 pages .... 2/5 stars.
(Didn't find this one very thrilling; and I was completely underwhelmed by the "big reveal" at the end.)
Romancing the Grump by Jenny Proctor
They're only pretending
to date; then she starts to fall
in love for real.
Romantic comedy .... 343 pages .... 5/5 stars.
(A sweet hockey romance that completely charmed me.)
Happy Reading!
The Girls Who Disappeared sounds like exactly the kind of book I would be drawn too, so I'm sad to hear it didn't work out.
ReplyDeleteI was really hopeful when I started reading that one because the premise is intriguing. And the writing itself is fine. But there's this whole past story line threading through the novel that ended up being very important at the end... and I just didn't buy it. So the 'twist' was a total letdown for me.
DeleteI'm so glad to hear that you enjoyed Romancing the Grump. I'm excited to check out that series. :D
ReplyDeleteIt's so cute! I loved it. :D
DeleteToo bad 'The Girls...' wasn't better. I think I've read something by that author but I can't think what.
ReplyDeleteI liked her writing, but the story itself was lacking. At least, it didn't work for me.
DeleteI always love your haiku reviews! Just perfect.
ReplyDeleteThanks. Some work better than others, but they're all pretty fun to do. :D
DeleteSorry Girls Who Disappeared was a disappointment, but Romancing the Grump seems to have been a real hit. :)
ReplyDeleteJenny Proctor writes some very humorous and fun romances. :D
DeleteI looove a hockey romance so I'll be checking out Romancing the Grump.
ReplyDeleteI love hockey romances, too. And this one is lighthearted, humorous, fun.
DeleteThese do look fun!!
ReplyDeleteHave you read Romancing the Grump yet? I think you'd like it, too.
DeleteLark, no, but it is on my TBR :)
DeleteThen you've got something to look forward to! It's a fun one.
DeleteActually I'm kind of glad to hear The Girls Who Disappeared wasn't that good...it wouldn't be my sort of thing anyway. ;-) Are We There Yet? is more my speed...
ReplyDeleteAre We There Yet? is a fun road trip book. I liked the four friends and the romance between two of them. It's a cute summer read. (And you're not missing out by not reading The Girls Who Disappeared.)
DeleteAlways fun to read your Haikus. I had to laugh about your comment about the not so thrilling thriller.
ReplyDeleteIt just didn't work for me. I got bored and almost quit reading in the middle.
DeleteOh, that can happen anytime, of course. I just like the way you described it. LOL
Delete:D Thanks!
DeleteRomancing the Grump is a telling title. :-) I am glad you liked it. I bet I would too. Are We There Yet? sounds fun too. I hope you are enjoying your week, Lark!
ReplyDeleteThanks! Having good books to read always makes life a little bit better. My summer has been quiet so far, but I am enjoying it. :D
DeleteBeing underwhelmed by a big reveal is not good. I love your Haiku reviews.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Mary! And thrillers should be thrilling at the end, not disappointing.
DeleteA hockey romance eh? Go Oilers! Tonight is Game 6. Hockey players often have beards ... just like the cover. ha.
ReplyDeleteThe group of hockey players in this one are very fun characters. And good luck to your Oilers!
DeleteI enjoyed The Girls Who Disappeared, but I don't remember it well now. I think I thought it was a little out there/wild at the end. I think the audio enhanced my enjoyment. I like the sound of Romancing the Grump! :)
ReplyDeleteRomancing the Grump is very cute and fun. And I thought the whole Thailand story line that's set in the past in The Girls Who Disappeared didn't add anything to the story...and then it plays this huge part at the end, and I just couldn't buy into it. So for me, that book just didn't work.
DeleteYour haiku reviews are always so fun. I love them!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Susan!
DeleteRomancing the Grump is a great title. I'm glad you loved it!
ReplyDeleteIt was a very fun read. I loved the grumpy hockey player in it. :D
DeleteThe thriller caught my eye right away but I think it'll be a hard pass. I've read too many that have disappointed me lately. However, Romancing the Grump sounds like a winner. Who could resist a grumpy hockey player romance.
ReplyDeleteRomancing the Grump is so cute. I think you'd like it. And don't bother with The Girls Who Disappeared. Use the time to read something better.
