Lark Rise to Candleford by Flora Thompson
Lark by Tracey Porter
The Song of the Lark by Willa Cather
Mansfield Lark by Katie Oliver
The Lark's Lament by Alan Gordon
Lark Rising by Sandra Waugh
Lark and Termite by Jayne Anne Phillips
Lark by Sally Watson
It's not a long list, but it seems to be a nice mix. The only two that I've read are The Song of the Lark by Willa Cather and Sally Watson's Lark, but I was thinking that it might be fun to read some of the others. Only I'm not sure which one to try first. Any suggestions?
Happy Reading!
(P.S. What books have your name in the title?)
When I saw the title of your post, I tried to think of some before reading it. I could only come up with The Song of the Lark, and Lark Rise to Candleford. The first one I haven't read yet, the second one I love (I haven't seen the TV adaptation).
ReplyDeleteI liked the Willa Cather, and feel like I need to read the Thompson. Good to know that you really like it. I know my library has a copy, so maybe next time I'm there I'll check it out. Thanks!
DeleteThat list has more books than I could think of! Alas, no books with my name in the title, I am afraid. I once read a book where a (minor) character was called Bettina, but that was all. :-)
ReplyDeleteKInd regards,
Yeah, you have a more unusual name; it's pretty though, so someone should write a book with it in the title! :)
DeleteFun! I've heard of Lark Rise To Candleford but haven't read any of these.
ReplyDeleteThe only thing that's kept me from reading Lark Rise to Candleford is the length; it's really long. But everyone seems to like it, so I might have to try it. :)
DeleteLark Rise to Candleford is a lovely book. There's also The Singing, Springing Lark (a fairy tale). And I haven't read any of these, but at least I have read and liked others by these authors: The Lark and the Wren by Mercedes Lackey, and The Lark by E. Nesbit. And Up with the Larks: Starting Again in Cornwall by Tessa Hainsworth sounds quite fun. What a literary name you have!
ReplyDeleteI didn't know E. Nesbit had a book called The Lark! I loved Nesbit's books as a kid. And Up With the Larks sounds really good; I love books set in Cornwall! Thanks for the suggestions. :)
DeleteAs another Lark (though in my case it's a nickname I use online) I thoroughly applaud this topic! I think my sister read Lark Rise to Candleford at some point; it was also made into a British TV miniseries. I can add two to your list: Elizabeth Goudge has a short story called "The Golden Skylark", which I haven't read in so long that I only vaguely remember what it's about. And Mercedes Lackey's The Lark and the Wren gave me the inspiration for my nickname, since, like the main character, I'm also a musician -- though not as skilled instrumentally as Rune/Lark.
ReplyDeleteI appreciate the recommendations...especially from another Lark. :) Thanks!
DeleteWhat a cool idea! I love finding familiar character names, but never thought to look for titles with my name.
ReplyDeleteIt's kind of fun to see what's out there.
