This week's theme?
Ten favorite settings that I'd like to see more of in books.
1. Unexplored caves and/or Abandoned mines
2. The Cretaceous
3. Remote outpost (in outer space or somewhere on Earth like Antarctica)
4. Traveling circus or carnival
5. Summer camp! (Ballet camp would be good, too.)
6. Amazon rainforest .... or any primeval jungle, especially if it also has
some hidden Mayan or Incan ruins in it.
7. Hogwarts! (Because seven books weren't enough.)
8. Cairo's Necropolis ... or The Valley of the Kings
9. The Paris Catacombs (or any where in Paris really)
10. Scotland, Wales, or Cornwall
Happy Reading!
I love my books set in the Amazon as ANYTHING can be lurking in there! Yes to caves, mines and remote outposts! Yes to horrific summer camps! Yes to more Hogwarts! Yes to decent horror set in Scotland and Wales!
ReplyDelete:D Glad to see we think so much alike.
DeleteOoh, so much fun! I love when the location and extreme weather play a role-- such as a blizzard in the Yukon or a steamy jungle in the Amazon. In these instances the location is considered a "main character" too!
ReplyDeleteExtreme weather...and extreme locations...always draw me in, too. :D Thanks for commenting!
DeleteUnexplored caves - yes, that's a setting I could totally get into. Nice list.
ReplyDeleteI think the reason I like reading about unexplored caves so much is because they kind of freak me out in real life. ;D
DeleteLove all your answers, Lark! I also love a wintry setting considering how hot and humid where I am, ha. ;)
ReplyDeleteWintry settings are always good. :D Sorry you're sweltering this summer.
DeleteTravelling circus! Yes, I can't get enough of those and they are few and far between.
ReplyDeleteAnd they make for such a great setting there should be more books about them!
DeleteThe Paris Catacombs would be such an interesting setting for sure.
ReplyDeleteMy TTT.
Hi, Lydia! Thanks for stopping by.
DeleteYes to all of these, but especially traveling circus or carnival. It's always fun to read books set there. :)
ReplyDeleteMe, too!
DeleteScotland, Wales, Cornwall, Switzerland, Norway, Sweden, and Australia. I agree with Melody about wintery settings during our hot, humid summers.:)
ReplyDeleteBlizzards and snowstorms always sound super good in the summer, don't they? :)
DeleteI went on an abandoned mine tour in Chile last year and it was terrifying! That would definitely make for a good, frightening setting for a ghost story or a survival tale.
ReplyDeleteScotland is on my list today, too. I don't think I've read anything set in Wales, but I have a lot of Welsh ancestry, so I definitely need to travel there -- at least in books :)
Happy TTT, Lark!
I'd love to visit Wales someday. And that abandoned mine in Chile sounds kind of awesome, too. :D
DeleteWow I agree with almost all of these! Unexplored caves- yes please! The Cretaceous as well. I need WAY more of those lol. Remote outposts in places like Antarctica are also a favorite of mine. And jungles with ruins as well.
ReplyDeleteLove this list!
Thanks! :D
DeleteI'll take it all except Hogwarts. I am happy with the seven books as "canon". But I understand the hunger for more. :D
ReplyDeleteHogwarts would be such a great place to visit, wouldn't it?
DeleteI particularly enjoy the "remote outpost" books and those set in Scotland or Wales. Cornwall, too, now that I think about it.
ReplyDeleteThey're great settings, aren't they? :)
